Camino norte great to do once
Hi, I walked the camino norte last year in may. Lots of rain, and asphalt walking. Alot of the albergues are not open, so it was necessary to make a call to be let in. I had 10 days walking on my own (not by choice) no others around. the first 2 weeks i only...
good idea sil, doesn't all volunteers go thru the association in spain to be a hospitalero, it is necessary to fill out an application form. the exception would be the csj which looks after rabanel and miraz.

Nathanael,
where are you living. i live in british columbia canada and have just completed a hospitalero course. there is an organization in spain that places hospitaleros, first 2 weeks of the month or the last. there is an application to fill out. let me know if you want the address. most...
Every trip is SO DIFFERENT. it really depends on the weather, who you meet, and i believe we are there for lessons to unfold.
Camino frances, appreciating the church celebration the first time, i wanted to see it again so i rushed back from finisterre (it was cancelled) so nothing is the same...
which route will you be walking.???? May is a beautiful time of the year, so green and beautiful wild flowers. however the camino frances is likely to be busy, there are other routes to consider that go to Santiago.
the planning is so much fun,

Well walking the camino can be VERY addicting. i walked the camino frances in 2006, the camino norte in 2007 and now i am doing research on the via francigena, however i may consider doing the via de plata in 2008. It is exiting PLANNING. This is the only kind of holiday i know. And i deliver...
well i did the camino frances in 2006 and had an amazing time , met fantastic people, incredible weather. this year 2007 was a TOTAL different experience on the camino norte. (very few people) i believe this is what a TRUE PILGRIMage is all about. Really getting in touch with oneself. I am...
i did my camino last year may/june. The weather was perfect 3 hours rain, the messata fantastic, the best part was the flowers in bloom and of course there is more daylight hours. the only thing with sept. is shorter days. i would not consider june or july.

Sometimes it is better to walk alone, if we want to get in touch with ourselves, or if we want an answer to something we have been thinking about. Sometimes talking with people ("takes us out") Go and see what shows up.

I did the camino frances last year, with alot of distractions (me...
camino norte
ps. have heard that from Gijon to Avilles is very industrial. I will definately take the bus here. the albergue in avilles i hear is great. On camino frances i did not take any transportation, however camino norte will be what it is and as the compostella is the same, it is ok for...

i am excited to do the camino norte. I am sure it will be very different, and the photos i have seen are magical. I plan on getting my credential in irun, possibly in santander if i arrive there. when are you going.

taking donkeys
hi i walked from St.Jean Pied de Port in May last year. I met a couple that walked with a donkey and camped there way.
I would check, as once they got to spain, the donkey was "arrested" and was sent back home to france.

walking alone
Also another consideration would be IF you took a tour, is there time built in IF you were to fall ill, or get blisters etc. If you are alone, you would be the boss, and can stay in one place longer if necessary.
I also agree that walking alone it enables a person to meet the...
family
Thomas,
I don't have a family (re:kids) but i would highly recommend that you go. i think if this trail is in your heart you may have regrets later. how old are the kids? Do as much of the trail as you can. Perhaps the whole family can do the trail.
Bethan Davies and Ben Cole who now...
The camino francis is ok, if one chooses to go off season, meaning any other month than july and august. i went in may/june, there was only 2 lineups and that was because the place didn't open till 3 and people wanted to stop at
dawn. we all got beds.
