Not for me to tell anyone what to do But if I hadnt read all advice here I would not have coped as well on my Caminos. Easy things. Dont expect cafe bars for morning or on many days any stops. This is difficult as you have many long stages and also no shade. You cant predict weather. I should...
UnaDara reporting from Merida. There are 26 pilgrims in Castilblanco. Some did long day into Monasterio. I find ground dry, sun very hot after 12 midday and hotter still after 6pm. Many I met are going to Santiago and I hope to meet them again. I have 35 days so will not complete entire way but...

Steeltown went CF/Salvador.. instead and is posting on FB. Great weather is good now, are you wearing goretex, waterproof boots? carrying gaiters? worried now my feet will sweat too much but it's a bit late to change them now. I did get a new pair of Merrell sandals , they will be worn a...
Thanks everyone
I had mis-read the bed numbers available,is the Molino alberque in addition to the one that is listed as being available through the Hotel Via de La Plata (I see no mention of that elsewhere except Jirit' list). I have a note re Torremejia's Alberque (I think Johnnie's notes) so...
Hi Everyone
I have no experience of walking in this busy period. Are Refugio beds kept for Pilgrims only and if there are many Spanish walkers? do they book ahead, can you book ahead for Municipal Alberques. If I am going to be in Merida semana santa should I anticipate and book a bed in...
LFitz? are you recommending we bring bog snorkelling gear! Would gaiters be any use through water? Just keep taking the boots off or taking the road detours? Not going till Apr so maybe there will be a change, no change here in Ireland, keeps raining.
Brave move. Or not ? I too would love to go on the shorter diversion routes off the Frances but am focused on the Plata. I was thinking today" go to my appts next Mon, osteopathy/acupuncture, Tues my sister's Month's mind Mass, then hop a flight Thurs, run to catch up with the Man in the Fancy...
I will walk a few weeks after you, pity. I want to hear that you have been remembered well in the pueblos, so leave some signs...I have been looking at my pilgrim clothes and may revise my checklist, my hat though has to come, it is a "judy" hat, from my great Camino buddy in Colorado, see the...
Thanks Una
Where are you from? In my swimming group the other "Oonagh" is Una "dos".. Una, Dos, Tres...ah well, it makes life interesting!
I have started to look at Google Earth online and can see the AVE "scar" on the ground. I also click on the images posted and so far it all looks great...
Hi Una, there is now confusion in the forum ranks, I am Una also but forum name unadara, so I will use that to sign, I am starting in Sevilla 10th April. Won't have a gps or need track, taking a compass!
Laurie
I might get to do 3 of the shorter Caminos you recommend, tie them in together in one trip. Or start in France ? or go from Lourdes ? Or Canterbury ?.
But for now and this year a BIG/long one, VdeLa Plata. I took early retirement just 5 yrs ago. Since then I have been very lucky to spend...
Laurie
I have a plan but think I will do as you "say" just keep walking, if I don't make it, come back again and do those enticing shorter routes in and out of Santiago..this year, 3 a yr from now on!
Maura
Will you be on your own ?, I haven't booked flights yet but intend going Tues after Easter or thereabouts, it will be my 4th Camino. I have space on an Irish Credencial for another Camino but fancy getting the Via special. I got the Norte special and it was nice. But Hospitaleros and...
Buen Camino John
Love to hear your stories on arrival back, I hope to travel the Via de la Plata via Zamora leaving late April, Your kit list is amazing, let us know what you are reading? and is it only CSJ guide or Alison's also. You are an inspiration.
Una
Gosh Falcon! are you saying veteran "members/walkers" are NOT amenable?
I will stick my neck out and advise to start with the Camino Frances as it is very well equipped with accommodation, guidebooks and signposting.
You have plenty of time to get fit, enjoy the planning.
