It could be fairly said that the 80th anniversary D Day landings ceremony yesterday was a pilgrimage for the remaining survivors who went there.
How time is strange .. 80 years back to D Day and only 80 years back from then to the American civil war! Do Americans visit, pilgrimage, to those war...
Ah, there the confusion, all is changed since I received mine - so, hang on! I could just have taken a train to Santiago to get my Compostela? Then why did they look at my credential and ask why I did the Camino? Confused. 🤣 🤣
The new one still has "with Christian sentiment (pietatis causa)"...
I did say that I might be wrong but, I used this as the translation from online, AI.
" When you arrive in Santiago de Compostela after walking the Camino de Santiago, you go directly to the Pilgrim’s Office to request your Compostela, which is the certificate that has been awarded to pilgrims...
Personally I find the coacherino concept rather horrid .. (the deceitful type .. claiming sellos and so on).
but, the Compostela seems to say
"to all the faithful and pilgrims from all the lands of the Earth who, for devotion or by taking a vow, have come to the Church of the Apostle Santiago"...
But surely that gamekeeper is already wearing the one his Dad handed down to him?
Does that work for Camino too? A thousand pounds on shirt, jacket, fleece and maybe a poncho for one Camino then go home and hand it all on to daughter or son? 🤣
Down here in the west country farmers and...
Crikey! Just a shirt costs well over £100 - and that is short sleeved! Rain jackets for over £400?
Same for the other site, northernplayground - do people really pay hundreds and hundreds of pounds for each piece of their clothing???😂😂😂
Ah, St Jean ... has more of a village feel to me than a town. The church at the foot of the cobblestone lane (the lane is the Camino) is worth a visit and a stillness time .. has various small shops so a good place to stock with last minute things (there is a trekking/maps shop almost opposite...
Of course! It is illegal for a non-Muslim to attend the Hajj - it isn't a tourist thing .. are you suggesting hat we should do the same? Only allow Catholics to enter the Santiago cathedral precincts?
It is a dilemma and one that cannot be happily compromised on. I have seen thick snow in early April all the way to Burgos (about 2007?), I have seen solid hot summer weather in late March .. dry, wet, no wind, strong winds - you just cannot predict - and that is the thing, with weather patterns...
Ah, I do like honest posts ... we never seem to mention it but, isn't doing more than one Camino an odd thing to do?
That first one, for whatever reason we did it, just cannot be replicated .. it lives in our memories .. we have it .. so why go on another? Why do we do that?
I go because I have...
He does say that he receives a lot of subjective denial from users but his video is about the science, not belief.
For me? I have always found that although it works compared to ordinary waterproofs which trap body heat and produces lots of wet inside quickly, it still does trap sweat when it is...
Take the Brittany Ferry to Bilbao then either cycle to Pamplona (95 miles) or go by bus.
If you book a recliner seat for £11 on the ferry and then sleep on the carpeted floor in the seats saloon, lights off at night, it is the cheapest way to get to Spain from the UK (I always discount flying...
No they don't. Non-breathable are a different material, some are fully waterproof forever - think traditional sailor waterproofs, the yellow ones - they stay waterproof forever.
Those materials such as Goretex have a very fine waterproofing coating added and this wears off so needs re proofing...
Hi all ... I have known for years that Goretex doesn't breathe when it is high humidity (or raining) .. noted because of how damp I would always become inside, as my sweat vapour turned back to water .. so I left such jackets and moved to cape style ponchos, free flowing air underneath so no...
