I walked every step from Lisbon to Santiago in Maj- June 2015 and to Finisterre and would not want to skip any parts of it.
Love it all and will be returning to Portugal.
@Anemone del Camino
I got an email from Odette today.
She says:
Buenas tardes Annie;
Este año el albergue del convento de San Antonio de Herbón (Padrón) estará abierto hasta Octubre inclusive, y abre a las 16 h.
Para los que quieran asistir, a las 19 h. se hace una visita guiada por la...
Hola!
1) According to gronze.com it is open.
2) I contacted a friend in Spain and he knows Odette the hospitalera who is serving there now. He says it is open.
3) It was open about 4 weeks ago when I was around.
4) I did send an e- mail to the albergue but no answer yet (they must be busy...
I would start walking from the Sé Cathedral in Porto which is the natural starting point for me in Porto and where you can obtain your credentials in the tourist office just outside the Cathedral, get your first stamp, see the cloisters and walk down to the river and follow the river to the...
New albergues are popping up and you will need either sleeping sheet or sleeping bag. My sleeping bag is 0.8 lb or 380 g.
There are several albergues between Lisbon and Porto.
I am one of those who always brings both (sprayed with permethrin) - just in case! And I prefer albergue/ convento/...
Do it @scruffy1 - you can do it if you want to do it. You are an experienced pilgrim. All the routes are well sign marked or just follow the maps. Luis Freixos maps are free and up to date.
It is actually a good place to stay in Lisbon.
It is very close to the Igreja de Santiago (your first carimba if it is open) which is a natural starting point in Lisbon.
It is situated high up on the hill with great views over Lisbon and it is easy to walk down to the Se cathedral and get...
@madge.conboybrowne
It is possible to walk 3-4 day trips from Lisbon to Santarem and train back to Lisbon if you wish. That means you are walking without your pack as you will keep your pack in Lisbon at your hostel there.
The hostal in Santarem (Mario), the hostel Tomar2000 (Fernando) and...
@alipilgrim - a couple of days ago you asked me about my 3 caminos in Portugal.
1. May 2014 I walked Porto- Matosinhos - Vila do Conde- Apulia- Viana do Castelo- Camina- Tui- Redondela- Pontevedra- Caldas de Reis- Padron- Teo- SDC. I met some other pilgrims before Vila do Conde but they all...
Dear all,
Awesome that so many pilgrims are interested in walking the caminos in Portugal. I have walked the coastal routes north of Porto twice (May 2014 and Sept 2014) on different routes and in May 2015 from Lisbon to Sdc and Finisterre mostly on the central route. All I can say is that all...
@lady danglebury
Don't worry if Fernanda's is completo. Walk 6 kilometers to Portela and stay at the Quinta da Portela - the Dutch man Han Geelen will open his Pilgrim House for you with two bedrooms, complete kitchen, great patio and view over his vinyards. He will do your laundry as well as...
The albergue in Cernache is great with two rooms with bunk beds and a kitchen. I stayed there in May/ June 2015.
I liked Racabal also - a whole room with a bath room to myself for €15.
Hola @frida1
When you are at the hostal in Tomar (Tomat 2300) ask for the pick- up service. By using their pick- up service they will pick you up anywhere you wish and drive you back to the same point in the next morning. You can cut the long stage in two shoerter ones and stay two nights in...
