Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

I think the OP is refering to the water through at the top of the zigzag climb from Hunto and the water tap at the Orisson, judging by the short distance between them. although, shouldn't kms be more in the 8km bracket? the names are curious, though, I don't think I've ever seen them before.

Options if Orisson is fully booked?

But only if you are stopping in Roncesvalles. (I think that's also what they say on their page.) it always seemed weird to me because, for me, a more logical point for breaking up the stage would be at croix thibault at the end of asphalt. Or at least at the snack van.

Options if Orisson is fully booked?

I've always wondered why don't they do pick-up at croix thibault as well, if they do drop-off there. or they do? does anyone know?

Pilgrim arrested over forest fire near Astorga

But it does not explain why he didn't put out the fire, kept on walking (?) and why there was a second fire start point (or is there only one now?). It's just, it breaks my heart when I see a forest on fire or walk through a soot-black bones of a forest.

Pilgrim arrested over forest fire near Astorga

That's why the word was in '', I know he has not been sentenced in a court of law.

Pilgrim arrested over forest fire near Astorga

Yes. And what about the second start point?

Pilgrim arrested over forest fire near Astorga

I am not condemning, but I am very surprised at such light 'sentence' for such a grave offence. He was not just some drunk shouting obscenities at some people, after all.

Pilgrim arrested over forest fire near Astorga

That's it?! He destroys pretious forests, endangers human and animal life, and that's it??

The exact location оf Campo do Romeiros

Has anyone tried looking at Domenico Laffi, the 17C italian pilgrim? He has many joucy tidbits, although Galicia seemed to scare him a bit with crosses engraved in stone along the routes which he believed marked spots where bandits had their way with pilgrims. Perhaps not too surprising, after...

Historic Hotel in Pamplona's Centro Histórico?

What about private room in an albergue? Alb. Plaza Catedral has two private rooms and is in a historic building.

    Busy? I’m alone at Luquin.

Loved it when I was there two years ago. The connection back to CF seemed well marked, however, I took a self-made route to Los Arcos via Barbarin and ermita san Jorge. Then another one via El Busto to Sansol. Beautiful green wheat fields with poppies.

Wise Pilgrim app right variant after Samos not accurate

If it is the same route as two years ago, we followed the road further to a restaurant, then a path between the restaurant and horse enclosure, then a deep corredoira/gully up to road, and left on road to aguiada. Hope this helps.

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

You were really lucky then. I will take a guess: Hospital, Mato Casanova and Astrar?

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

In every at least somewhat touristy town in France I've ever stayed in this has been standard for years. The tourist tax increases with the comfort level / category of the accommodation. Sometimes it's included in the cost (often in pilgrim-related establishments) but is more often added to the...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Omigosh. Maybe when I'm on the train to my next camino. :)

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I completely agree it's impossible to say anything definitive without extensive research on the terrain. My knowledge of the situation is based on the occasional browsing of this forum and my last CF which was may-june 2022. I ran into one continuous cludge of pilgrims out of Portomarin (I...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

This is an interesting point, it gave me a suggestion: introduce permits for organised groups. Many complaints about lack of available beds are linked to groups booking most of beds in albergues, sometimes in unexpected off-stage towns with limited capabilities, and sometimes in municipals...

    Valcarlos/Burguete or Borda/ Roncesvales?

this alternative descent is also clearly marked on the paper map given out at the sjpp pilgrim office. in fact, it is marked as the primary descent.

    Valcarlos/Burguete or Borda/ Roncesvales?

um, don't be discouraged by that view. it's a view of the albergue from the camino - for the purposes of spotting it right away and not needing to make a whole roundabout of the village because it's not indicated from the camino. the view from the albergue is much nicer, I promise! and the views...

    Valcarlos/Burguete or Borda/ Roncesvales?

that's the view you get from the route when you reach the level of the fronton.
