    Osteoarthritis

Have you thought of walking a shorter distance that does not cause pain and/or aggravate this condition? I ask as someone who has had to make changes in my activities over time to accommodate age and health issues so I can keep doing the things I love.

Hospederia San Martin Pinario are the rooms in hostal ok

I stayed in this very room. As others have said, extremely quiet and very clean. I was there in not quite mid May and the room was VERY, VERY COLD. Perhaps because at the end of the line for the heating system?? Anyway, I'd stay again, but ask for a different room if it were still that cold.

LIVE from the Camino CF in Late March 2018 (live info)

Bala: FYI I have walked from SJPP to Pamplona starting on Saturday March 24 and was very happy in my trail runners. However, they are a waterproof version of the Altra Lone Peak. It rained all but the first day, not in downpours, but fairly steady light rain. My feet stayed dry in merino...

Two pilgrims rescued in Napoleon Route

I went over from Val Carlos to Roncesvalles on Saturday, March 24. The folks in SJPP as well as in Val Carlos urged everyone to stick to the roadway and avoid the actual Camino paths that are part of the Val Carlos route. I followed their advice and it was fine walking the road. They were ice...

    The right credencial?

I got my credential from American Pilgrims in 2016 and had no worries or problems in obtaining my Compostela in Santiago. Buen Camino.

    Valcarlos auberge

Thanks. I will be sure to ask for that mep. I think that will be good for me, not a Luddite, but not so techno savvy either!

    Valcarlos auberge

About 2 weeks ago I e-mailed the Albergue requesting a reservation for March 23 and received a prompt reply, bed reserved. Thanks to those providing detailed directions to the door.

    Hairdryer on the walk?

I'm walking in March and I don't want to hang out in a cold albergue with wet hair. I will be carrying a 4 gm shower cap (the kind that you sometimes find in hotels - free). If the albergue is cold, I'll shower but try to keep my hair mostly dry under that cap. If I think my clothes won't dry...

What did you bring on the Camino that you wound up not using?

On some days I really could have used a second pair of legs! I had some few medicines that I didn't use, blister treatment kit (still would bring it), and when I got home, realized I had a second bandana that I didn't use, but only because it got lost in my pack and I didn't know I had it. I...

    Happiness is...

I'll be awaiting the results of the test. I'm a Lone Peak fan and wear them for all hikes and long distance walks. I will be donning a pair of the Neo's for my upcoming Camino.

    Toe nails

All sound advice already posted. I would add that once you get a shoe/boot with a good fit, when donning the shoe, kick your heel back into the heel cup to be sure your foot is properly placed there. Then use a non-slip lacing method to keep the heel back there and prevent your foot sloshing...

ESSENTIAL Equipment for the Budget Concious Pilgrim?

We (most) all carry a luxury item or two. If I were walking at the same time as you, I'd volunteer to carry that thing once in awhile for a really good portion of that Thai Jasmine rice. But alas, I'm starting out in March:( Three cheers for your supporting your wife and easing her concerns...

    Ponferrada to Compostella May 1-15

In 2016 on the Frances, I walked in non waterproof trail running shoes, and it worked out well. My shoes and feet got wet a few times, but didn't cause problems. My shoes dried fast. Last year I wore what I would call a "water resistant" trail runner as I wanted more warmth in the shoes...

    Walking in April!

    Starting SJPP on March 23.

Key Essential Item(s) for Your Camino

Two items not absolutely needed, but that I was so glad to have and used daily: merino buff and lightweight scarf.

    Iceland stopover anyone?

I haven't done the stopover as I have limited time away from home for a Camino and want all of that time devoted to the walk. However, I have been to Iceland and even a few days around Reykjavik would be terrific. I don't like anything to do with crowds, but my trip "came with" a trip to the...

    Ponferrada to Compostella May 1-15

Katy: In 2016 I walked the Frances, Pamplona to Burgos and Ponferrada to Santiago, the latter segment at just about the same time you will be on that route. We had showers many of the days in Galicia (no surprise there) but only a couple really rainy days. I would not plan a walking trip...

    Returning from SdC advice needed

I will be flying from the states to Madrid round trip for my Camino which begins March 22. Two years ago I did the same round trip. On that first trip, I took the train to from Santiago to Madrid. I was a nice train ride, but the whole process from leaving my lodgings in SdeC to my lodgings...
