Accommodation during El Camino de Santiago survey

I am an engineer, not a psychoanalyst, so I just applied my general experiences over my last 12 varied Caminos, and I found the questions easily answered with just a bit of hesitation on 2 of them. Like Camino days, just take the questions as they come and try not to read anything else into them.

    Coffee

Had you stayed in Albergue de la Santa Cruz, you would have been able to get coffee when the breakfast room opened at 0600😁

    Memory lane

Ahhh....that first Camino. Also nearly 8 years ago for me in Sept 2016. I was a naive 56 year old who had never hiked more than 10 miles in a day, so I trained extensively before going. After checking in at the Pilgrims office in St Jean, I got an auberge with 4 person room. Somehow that day...

Help. Trying to pay a deposit for a reservation on PayPal

Agreed. I also hate the convoluted payment requests I have gotten only a couple times in 12 caminos, so I just call the albergue and promise to arrive; please hold the bed. Has not failed.

    Medication woes

Sounds about like me, plus micro bottle of alcohol, antibiotic, zycam cold med, roll of Tums, razor knife, sewing kit and microbutane lighter. Smaller than deck of cards, but tube of Voltaren, Vaseline and sunscreen take most of pack waist belt pouch. Don’t forget the 20 cm length of plastic...

Are there Book swaps on the Camino. What book would you take.

Lots of albergues have lots of random books in various languages in the common areas. Suggest you just do the swap, or if it makes you feel better, ask the host if its OK.

    Completion Certificate

The correct answer is: infinite. Whatever your credential, you can create and add gridded out pages to it. It gets full; just add more pages using plain paper and grid them out with pen. For me, I get an American Pilgrims on the Camino credential. I use a pen grid out all of the extraneous...

    Ordering beer in Spain

1906 and that Monasterio /albergue along del Norte makes a tostada

    Camino Dating

While walking the Camino in 2017, I met a lady from Ireland who, while walking as a pilgrim about 2 years prior, fell in love with a Spanish man. I have encountered her on every trip to Spain since then. Last year when I met her for the 6th time, she announced they were finally getting...

    When should I stop training?

This pilgrim hikes, bikes, stretches and does gym workout right up to the day I leave. Lord knows the 16 hours of driving to airport, sitting on that plane, waiting 4 hours in Madrid for plane to Pamplona and conniving a ride to SJPP is rest enough. Unless weather is very bad, I'll head up the...

Wise Pilgrim or Buen Camino or both?

I have been using Wise Pilgrim for various Caminos since 2018, but on del Norte last fall, it was very lacking on accurate info regarding variants, and not up to date on newer reroutes. About 1/2 way through I downloaded Buen Camino, and found it to be a very welcomed supplement.

Food to bring to Spanish friend from US

YUM! I'm coming to your house for dinner!

Food to bring to Spanish friend from US

Agreed! I concede the point. I should have said invented in the land that was to become Maine. 😆😋🤣 And so was Maple Sugar Candy, which also might be a good idea to take to Spain as gifts.

Food to bring to Spanish friend from US

Agreed. They say it is available, but I got a hankering for peanut butter walking CF a couple of years ago and could not find it anywhere!!!

Whoopie pies - official Maine desert

Food to bring to Spanish friend from US

Maybe now, but it was invented in Maine. Ha Ha Ha

Food to bring to Spanish friend from US

Mix fireball whisky with rum chata. Tastes like cinnamon toast crunch. My invention: one shot fireball, one shot Natural Bliss Vanilla coffee creamer, 3 shots 100 proof Captain Morgan spiced rum, sprinkle in some nutmeg and throw in a few ice cubes. I call it a rum fizzle!!

Food to bring to Spanish friend from US

You use the marshmallow fluff with Peanut Butter (better send that, too, as it is very hard to find in Spain. I prefer super crunchy) to make a FlufferNutter sandwich. Send Marshmallows and Graham crackers to make s'moors. Better use Spanish chocolate bars; darned site better than Hershey's...

    The Idea of Camino

Of course everyone is different, and the ratios you seek are different for everyone. For instance, I was very apprehensive of all the toils you describe, so I trained and prepared extensively prior to my first Caminos. Result: I never got blisters; sweat and brilliant sun in mid/late afternoon...

Shirley Maclaine - The Camino - Swimming place

True she was older, but also a professional dancer, so no big FEET/feat, maybe.
