    Women's swimsuit

I don't know of many albergues on the Frances that have pools (I'm making an assumption that's what you meant). Hotels, yes, but not really albergues (though there may be exceptions). Perhaps in bigger cities such as Leon or Burgos. You'll be walking through many small towns and villages, many...

    Alternative to Pamplona for overnight

Based on the recommendations already given, it still sounds like you would fare better in a smaller, quieter stage than Pamplona. You will be amongst hundreds of first timers, so please don't try to hit all the high notes before you step foot on the camino. It takes a good week to work out the...

    Alternative to Pamplona for overnight

Not to discount other's experiences, I still wouldn't worry. It's for one night and you should be fine. I had my pack downstairs; everything was safe and sound, and the pods have little lockers in them for valuables, etc. The gentleman who runs the place is very nice as well.

    Alternative to Pamplona for overnight

Pamplona is a delightful city, and the old town is small and compact. I stayed at Casa Ibarrola, just as you enter the old city. https://maps.app.goo.gl/sQGLrGEzipZBpLjm8 Can't miss out on pintxos and tapas!

    Camino fatigue?

So many good comments here. @Anniesantiago encapsulated much of what I experienced last year during my 3rd camino. Somewhere along the way (pun intended) the camino has morphed into something else...what, I'm not sure. Maybe covid changed us all, made us more entitled, demanding, more insular...

    The Pilgrim’s Guide to Etiquette

Exactly what I say (originally born and raised in San Diego). Personally I dislike saying "I'm American" or "I'm from the US" (that's all I'll say on the matter!)...but California sounds so beachy and sunny and always gets a "ah yes, so hot". Which isn't true as it's a huge state with mountains...

    December camino

Forum member Jeremy from Singapore braved a late Dec/January camino last year and documented everything on his blog at jhttps://jeremycamino.blog/. I thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with his daily postings. His writing and tone reflected the quiet and contemplative mood of winter caminos, vs the...

    Accident in Finisterre

The Galician sea shows little mercy. Here's an interesting article about the Spanish women who harvest "percebes", and how skilled one has to be in order to navigate those rocks and massive swell. No place for unskilled pilgrims.... https://roadsandkingdoms.com/2016/barnacle-queens-of-the-seaside/

Help with accommodation on Camino Francés

My guiding light in that department is: pay whatever I would pay at say, a private albergue. Donativos are special places (IMHO) and I want to make sure I "pay it forward" (as there's always someone who thinks donativos are free). Also, if I can afford a plane ticket to Spain, I can afford to...

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Which goes with the territory of sleeping in a roomful of other pilgrims. The OP's laundry list is a good example of a ridiculous extreme.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

If you're signing up to sleep in a room with 5-20 other people for 30+ days, bank on snoring happening. It's your job to figure out if you can deal with this. If you cannot deal, and if earplugs don't work for you (some folks have inner ear issues), book private accommodations, or don't go on a...

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

I think it's safe to say most people understand the concept of preparation. It was the manner in which those "essential points" were dispensed.

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

Paul, In looking back on your comment history (since early 2023), it seems you are rather preoccupied with the notion that one is deemed ready for a camino...only by pre-practice trips to Europe, in order to "gain travel skills". It's extremely paternalistic and off-putting. And...I also...

I couldn't help but revisit the definition of paternalism after reading Paul Jacobi's comments.

    Pilgrimage - selfish?

I want to honor the OP's feelings of grief, as I felt this deeply upon returning to Bali last summer. I was lucky to "be stuck" on that island for two years during the pandemic. And living there during those quiet pandemic years was equal parts amazing and depressing, as the Balinese heavily...
