I'm looking at flights from UK to SDC in April, but they all seem to arrive at 23:00, Anyone know a hotel that has reception open at 01:00? Tried a couple already with no luck.
On my last day on the Camino, and after I had obtained my Compostela, I crouched down in my hotel room to pick something up and experienced a sharp pain in my right knee. Fast forward four months and I am awaiting knee arthroscopy for "an extensive tear of my medial meniscus extending from the...
Just a few Rreflections on the Camino Invierno.
Tough going? Well, it's not the Meseta, and it does make you work for some fantastic views, but, at age 70, and by no means a gym bunny, I had no real problems. Do make sure you take plenty of water with you as there are very few water points on...
Starting where I left off last year, defeated by a combination of 40° temperature and covid-19.
I stayed last night at O Pillaban. I was the only guest but Noelina, who speaks some English and Theresa, who doesn't, looked after me very well. I had an excellent meal and, being the only guest...
I have booked a room at Hotel O Forno in Salcedo. (A story in itself!)
Wise Pilgrim notes that "If you prefer to walk there, you can follow a marked trail from Barxa de Lor"
Has anyone done this, and, if so, how well marked is the trail?
This may be a question no one can answer, but if I arrive in Santiago de Compostela about noon on a Sunday at the beginning of July, what are the chances of my getting a Compostela on the same day?
I thought I might just post a few updates on Laurie's excellent guide to the Invierno, gleaned from a short trip earlier this month. I got as far as A Rua before Covid intervened.
Loose dogs: I didn't encounter any of these between Ponferrada and A Rua. I heard the occasional barking dog, but...
Well, this one certainly seems to be, if today's experience is anything to go by! I have walked today from Ponferrada to Carucedo without meeting a single other pilgrim.
I'm not complaining. It makes a refreshing change from the Camino Frances, although I enjoyed the company of others in the...
If you take a long - distance train in Spain, as I did yesterday from Madrid to Leon (yes, I finally made it back to the Camino) your luggage will be X-Rayed before you are allowed to board.
Not a problem, I thought, until the security officer (actually a very nice, motherly lady) drew...
I'm planning to walk the Invierno in June and have emailed both these properties, (two weeks ago) but no reply.
Can anyone confirm whether they are open? I have phone nos, but my spoken Spanish, especially with a Scottish accent, is rubbish. Any info gratefully received.
I am having difficulty in finding accommodation between Vilar de Mazarife and Orbigo for 9 June this year. Villavante looks like a convenient stop, but Molino Galochas has no accommodation and Albergue Santa Lucía is closed (and doesn't get very good reviews.) Does anyone have experience of this...
While we're all reduced to looking out of the window (at a light dusting of snow, in my case) and dreaming of our next Camino, I wonder if anyone on the forum has walked this route?
It's one of the lesser-known long distance (344 km, 214 miles) coast to coast routes in the UK, crossing the...
I have tried several times to get a refund on my RENFE ticket for 1 May, but I always end up (after being led through a series of very promising screens) with the error message:
THE PROCESS CANNOT CONTINUE RIGHT NOW. WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE (G001)
An error occurred when recovering...
I may be remembering wrong, but the free bus which takes you to T4, from where the long distance buses leave, used to depart T1 from the Arrivals floor.
It now leaves from Departures, one floor up. At T4, it also stops at Departures, level 2, and you have to go down to level 0 for the buses. (Go...
I am due to fly to Madrid on Wednesday 24 April, which coincides with a scheduled nationwide strike of ground handling staff, so my flight may be cancelled.
I had intended starting from Burgos to walk to Leon and have booked accommodation along the way.
As a precaution, I have booked a seat on...
Just published, in French, and only on paper at the moment (digital version later this year) and beloved of all who have walked le Puy route. I'd be interested to see reviews from users.
Walked today from Los Arcos to Logrono in perfect weather. Temperature in the low 20s with a gentle breeze, clear blue skies with distant views of snow -capped mountains. Everyone smiling and last week's rain forgotten (although the river Ebro obviously swollen.)
Come and join us!
Flew into Madrid yesterday, and there is noticeably more snow on the Sierras than I normally see in February. However, I arrived here this afternoon to a very pleasant 21 degrees and a similar forecast for the rest of the week.
Met some German walkers, one of whom showed me a video on his phone...
I'm taking this slowly (I started in Le Puy in 2012) and I'll be picking up where I left off in June '17 - in 37 degrees! Hoping it will be cooler in April.
I'm planning a short scouting expedition on this route, say, Vezelay to La Charite sur Loire, and there seem to be FOUR routes out of Vezelay - two on the Voie de Vezelay, maintained by the 'Amis et Pèlerins de Saint-Jacques de la Voie de Vézelay,' the northern of which goes via La Charite, and...
