I walked from A Guarda (border Portugal/Spain) to Santiago from Dec 23 till Dec 31, 2023. It was very quiet until the route merged with the Portugués Central in Redondela. From Redondela on I guess there were about 20 to 40 pilgrims on the road (but that was of course during Christmas holidays)...
I agree. There is scientific evidence that trusting people as a guiding principle enhances happiness. And vice versa: constant mistrust reduces happiness.
As A Gudiña was supposed to be my starting point, I decided to work around Campobecerros. I will now start my Camino (in 2,5 weeks) in Verín and walk Verín - Laza as first stage. I booked a room in the Parador in Verín, so lodging should be alright... 🤣
Thanks for your elaborate report! I started following you lately on instagram, as I'll be walking the Sanabrés myself in a couple of weeks. I also copied your report about the dog out of Oseira and put it on the forum here (didn't know you were here too). Didn't the numbers go up after Ourense?
You might happen to count me as a pilgrim, while I am not. 😅 I will be walking the Sanabrés half May and am having most of my training walks on (parts of) the Norte. However I prefer to avoid the Norte's asphalt where I can.
To add my grain of salt: I stayed in albergue La Xana in La Caridad on...
This was exactly my plan indeed. Just ask pilgrims who have spent the night there if they wouldn't mind to walk the first few kms out of Oseira together.
But I think I know how it feels, @LuciaP. I used to be terrified as well. What @geraldkelly says is true, incidents are rare. But I also...
I haven't checked if it was mentioned already, but there are also quite few alternatives to the Camino's asphalt between La Caridad and Tapia de Casariego. Look at these tracks on wikiloc...
I'll be walking there in a couple of weeks as well. And planning to stay in Oseira. I hope the situation is solved by then, but I thought about trying to organize a group, so I won't walk alone there.
I have been reading 2 different reports (on FB and instagram) about (an) agressive dog(s) just after Oseira. I'll post them here:
In the group of @geraldkelly on FB (4 days ago):
Hello lovely Via de la Plata group!
I had a very unpleasant experience with 3 aggressive dogs just after the...
Ah, and one more thing: are you going to walk the Francés? Then you really don't need to take 2 liters of water with you. There are so many villages on the way that 1 liter should normally be enough.
And this. For example: I will take 2 pairs of shorts. When I arrive at the albergue in number 1, I shower, wash, get into number 2, wash number 1, sleep in number 2, walk the next day in number 2, arrive, shower, get into number 1, wash number 2, etc.
Most of your clothes double that way: the...
I can echo the others here. No rules, as long as you are comfortable with your pack it's fine. But if I were you, I would leave some clothes home. If I count well (all together, including what you are wearing):
- 2 towels
- 4 T-shirts
- 1 longsleeve
- 1 fleece
- 1 wind jacket
- 1 poncho
- 2...
