    Covadonga?

Thank you for this. Since I will be staying near Ribadesella for three of four days to wander around on the GR9 and walk the coast and watch Bufones, I may try and find a way to walk directly from there to Arriondas and not head west on the Norte to Villaviciosa.

    Covadonga?

When in September 2024 I resume my del Norte walk I will be starting again in the Village of Naves, Asturia I'm considering a side trip via GR 105 from the Norte just past Villaviciosa to Covadonga in the Picos Europa. Has anyone done this? If so, how was it? Not being a Pilgrimage rout I...

Bicycling the Camino Sureste 1100 kms in the Spring

Hello I have walked Caminos and other trails in Spain for 8 of the last ten years beginning in 2013 at the age of 74. For all except last years time on the Norte I carried my own backpack. (big mistake not doing it this time) Now at the age of 84 I am planning to rent a bicycle and ride from...

Which are the “wilder” (least paved, most rural) Spanish routes?

I'm planning to walk from Alicante via the Camino Sureste beginning in February or March after a stay in Alicante to escape our winter here in Maine, USA. I'm guessing that since it is quite a distance, lots of it will be off pavement. Guess I'll find out since I can't find any guidebook(s)...

    Any pilgrims in their 80s?

I walked from SJPDP to Santiago in 2013 at the age of 74 and have been back to Spain walking on various different Caminos de Santiago and parts of the Ruta Transpirenaica (GR 11) every year except the Covid Summer, until this September when I was on the Camino del Norte at 83 years old. My...

Globetrotting Adventure on the International Appalachian Trail

HI all, I'm the Tom Wheeler who introduced Will to the IAT and a few other trails over the years. To me, Will is still a youngster since I am turning 84 in a week and was struggling along on the Camino del Norte again less than a month ago. Years ago, my doctor told me to "hike to live", so...

Hugging the Coast on del Norte

Go To Windy.com and zoom into the Northern Spain Coast. The Camino del Norte is shown and also the E9 route. I used the E9 as much as I could when it stayed near the coast. E9 and CdN are together much of the time.

LIVE from the Camino Fourth time a charm?

A couple of months ago I posted a rather long bit about my misadventures on the Camino del Norte and my three attempts to walk from Irun to Santiago. "Try, try again". Well now I'm at it again at 84 years old. I got back on in San Vicente de la Barquera and I'm heading to Oveido on these wobbly...

    Most technical / mountainous camino

There is an ancient Camino route that follows an old Roman road up over the Pyrenees from Lescun, FR up over the Pass de Palo and down into the valley de Hecho. It then climbs up again in the Village of Sireso to a ridge which it follows until dropping down into the valley of the Veral River and...
