Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

I would certainly never consider a poncho in the mountains of Scotland or Ireland

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

A full length front zip makes the whole process much more dignified and efficient 🤣

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

😂 yes strange looks indeed. The dog doesn’t mind and neither do I as I am dry! This is my second poncho and the other as described by the OP is not up to much. My Decathlon one in in reality a long jacket or better, a coat. Pit zips, sleeves, pocket entry and the ability to run a belt from...

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

I carried a ‘wind shirt’ and a poncho. Poncho was for the rain and wind shirt - what it says on the tin, means it cuts the wind and ventilates well in the way that a waterproof jacket does not. In short it is much more comfortable to wear over any combination of clothing assuming it is not...

    Getting from Orisson to Roncesvalles

I had knee issues and decided to skip the Pyrenees and simply start in Pamplona. Didn’t fully sort the issue as both knees now replaced!

    getting sick

You have reminded me of the old ‘shuttle cough’ generally picked up on the short hop from Scotland to London. Most folks succumbed to the bug festooned air in the plane

    App or Book?

I totally agree. Love using books for preparation and indeed writing on/ placing notes in but they do date very quickly. I tend to put everything onto the phone which you are carrying anyway - book, Apps, photos of specific items or instructions, tickets etc. I do carry paper but very little...

    getting sick

Anyone that thinks Covid is over is kidding themselves. A few weeks ago I felt under par and in particular struggled to read (if you remember back to the beginning eyesight was one of the symptoms) Eventually it twigged and I tested finding it to be positive. A few weeks later my wife also had...

Am I the only one perplexed by WhatsApp?

As has been alluded to above by Peter, WhatsApp uses data (4G very often) as such it is not a phone and connects through a VIOP signal to speak to another person (Voice Over Internet Protocol) in effect it is a computer speaking to another computer. If the receiving computer does not have the...

Are there Book swaps on the Camino. What book would you take.

I carry Kindle books on my phone. Small pages but does the job as you are taking a phone with you anyway I presume. Basically there is little time to read in any case unless you shut yourself off from other pilgrims or sit and read as opposed to sightsee on a rest day. I barely had to time to...

    Confusing markers

Yes blue is generally for Fatima I understand but I like your alternative suggestion 😂😂

Thanks I will ping him - PR as opposed to Camino 👍

    Confusing markers

My friend is currently on the Camino Portuguese - a route that he has walked before and has now seen a number of markings as below. What does the Red Cross out signify?

Bugs / Insects on Route Frances

I have seen many mosquitoes in southern Spain but have not been bothered in the north. What I have seen both north and south is processional caterpillars. Basically you see them and a long furry line. They have poisonous spines that break off into your skin. Look but do not touch!

Walking a camino after knee replacement

Good for you! My second new knee still gives spasmodic pain after rest. Good for walking though 👍

Last minute decisons - fleece or puffer?

Fleece definitely. Fleece retains 35% of thermal ability when utterly soaking, wool does 50%, down jacket does ZERO. A synthetic puffa keeps more heat than down when sodden.

    Sorry for the spam overnight!

Like many others I had a young lady lusting after me this morning. Deleted Ivar, this is not your fault but that of the internet. Don’t fret over it and thanks for keeping the forum running. It is one of the friendliest and best moderated sites I have seen. Cyber attack seems to be the big...

What’s the difference between my two chargers?

At the end of my Frances I was in Santiago and noticed that the adaptor I was using all month was now running extremely hot. So hot it failed and got the bin! Beware of adaptors that are not bought with the device! Now…. I remember the time in the Himalayas when the charger was loose in the...

Need help deciding to bring or not to bring

Kindle App on phone does that same thing. Power bank only take if is is the side of a double thick credit card and gives your phone a full charge. Tiny but does the job if required. Torch- I Carry one but rarely use it. As an ex mountain rescuer they are invaluable as safety gear. Make sure...

    Pacer poles / York Nordics?

I have been using these from Decathlon for months If you are shorter than me they work as a standard Walking pole with wrist straps. They have ergonomic handles that are padded and which need hardly any pressure to hold. Given their low price and availability at Decathlon stores in most...
