I suppose it depends on which Camino you are walking. I found it necessary on the Camino Portuguese as signage can be spotty.. although a guidebook would work too. If you’re walking the Camino Frances, you won’t need an app at all.
I loved the Meseta. While it is flatter agricultural land, it is quite beautiful and in some areas stunning. I walked the Meseta in Sept 2022, and you do need to watch out for heat/shade, but other than that, you'll be fine. Took approx 6-7 days. Well worth it. I wouldn't skip it.
42 days isn't that long from SJPP to Finisterre. You may find you need more days depending on how many km's are comfortable for you to walk each day. You'll make friends and not see them for a few days and then see them again on another day. Some you may never see again.
It's not going to be very popular, but there will be people walking that direction on the Fatima trail, which does travel a good part of the trek on the same trails as the Camino. I'm sure you can get a pilgrims passport in Santiago and have it stamped as you travel to Lisbon.
Correct. The wooden esplanade along the water looks ready, but it’s still fenced off with a chain link fence. However, the walk to Alpriate runs on a dirt trail along an estuary. It was quite lovely and off from the roads.
