So I’d been given to understand in my pre-Camino research that one could just ask for a copo de agua (glass of water) which is basically tap water on the house.
Since arriving in Portugal a few days ago, I had no issues with such a request at eating places.
However, today, i was in a...
There are 2 routes into Baiona from As Marinas (about 6km from Baiona) - (1) Litoral (shown in red in pic), and (2) Coastal (shown in dark blue).
What are the plus and minus points of either route if you have taken one or the other (or even both)?
I’m not sure if a mundane question such as this is entertained, but I’m prepared for the consequences … so here goes.
I’m torn between these 2 hotels in A Guarda: Hotel Bruselas and Hotel Monumento Convento de San Benito.
Both highly-rated IMO. The latter seems more highly recommended in...
Wow, I’m grateful for all your replies. There’s so much wisdom in all of them. Thank you.
Indeed, I think the main thing for me is to be open to whatever comes my way and to accept them all as part of the spiritual experience of the Camino. My intentions may indeed find fulfillment in whoever...
I will be doing my first Camino solo from Porto (Coastal/Litoral + Spiritual Variente) next April and plan to stay in private accommodation, hoping the solitude will enable me to connect more deeply with my spiritual self and with God.
To quote John Brierley: “… the basic counsel is to go on...
That’s interesting… an app dedicated to lightning? Which one in particular? Do you find it any help?
I went into my phone App Store and found a couple such apps … Lightning Alarm and Lightning Tracker among them. Not sure how good these are.
Much has been spoken in Camino forums about how and what to pack for rain on the Camino. But I don’t see much sharing on protecting oneself against lightning.
What do pilgrims do when they chance into an electrical storm with bolts of lightning crashing to the ground, especially when they’re...
Thanks for sharing your expertise and making this point.
I assume then if bathroom tap water is boiled (if the hotel room that has the convenience of a kettle) and cooled, then it would be ok?
Thank you so much everyone for the assurances! This is exactly what I wanted to hear!! I had no doubt tap water would be potable, but was just wondering what the Camino practice was among pilgrims in this respect.
This will also save me the hassle of carrying a second water bottle to store up...
Hello,
I tried searching the forum threads but didn’t seem to find anything on topic.
I plan to stay in hotels for my Camino next year and, unlike albergues which likely have pantry areas with complimentary drinking water available to pilgrims for refills, hotels may or may not provide...
I’m looking for recommendations for a suitable accommodation between Baiona and Vigo, preferably in a private room, although I’m open to suggestions in an albergue.
Gronze indicates the Baiona-Vigo stretch (Litoral) to be about 25+ km. So some place midway would be ideal.
Thank you JabbaPapa and The Yukon for your encouraging comments. I may well take up the challenge of walking from Fatima after all. However, I may just attempt the full 29-20km in one day since I am planning to make accom bookings for Tomar and beyond in advance (I prefer doing this for comfort...
I’ve been looking up the Fatima-Tomar route a fair bit in preparation for my first Camino next April.
The plan was to start from Fatima. But since I’ve been hearing the way-marking to Tomar is patchy, and since it’s a long 30km walk (long for the very first day of my planned Camino!) with some...
I was under the (mistaken) impression once you reach the aqueduct, you should not be getting lost because the aqueduct leads to the city(?), since you can walk either under it (meaning, just follow it), or walk on top of it, and you will end up in the town.
Unless of course the aqueduct does...
Hi, I plan to begin my first Camino from Fatima by walking to Tomar (about 30km) to join the Central route.
As it is a long walk for a first day, is there anyone who has broken it up over 2 days, and if so, where did you stay?
Secondly, is the Fatima-Tomar trail well-marked?
Any tips and...
I was looking up information on breaking up the sector between Rabacal and Coimbra over 2 days when I came across your post.
May I know where you overnighted in your case? And which accommodation too? Many thanks!
