    Piecemeal camino question

I may have an opportunity to do five days on the Camino in October. What would be the best place to start if I want to end in Sarria? In December, we did from Sarria to Santiago. So I thought it would be cool to do the portion before that. What would be a good starting point to end in Sarria...

Newbie with Sarria to Santiago - Equipment ?s

also, I was surprised at how much trail supply there is on the Camino itself in various shoe stores in towns. And in general, I think they are less expensive there. On the downside, they’re brand new, so they’re risky, but rest assured that if whatever you have isn’t working, there are usually...

Newbie with Sarria to Santiago - Equipment ?s

what month? we just did Sarria to Santiago in December. A lot of rain. I wore trail running shoes which were perfect with gators added at times. But I did break them in before we went. I think that’s hugely important. And lots of wool socks, T-shirts etc. But that’s for winter. I suggest...

What would you change about the CF - if you could?

I can only speak for the short walk from Sarria but most of the albergues were closed between xmas & new year. I’m glad I booked in advance and booked hotels and of course they were heated and totally fine - with 15mi our longest day. I can’t speak for the other parts of the Camino but from...

What would you change about the CF - if you could?

i wish more albergues and cafes were open along the Camino in December and January. I wonder if that would draw more pilgrims that time of year and take some of the pressure/crowd off of the other seasons. The weather can be a little tricky but not that bad IMO except in the mountains I suppose...

    Bourbon and cigars

Most towns have tobacco shops that sell puros. You’ll see a lot of Cohiba, some Havana cigars. Be prepared to fork it out. Cigars are more expensive in Spain than they are in the US. but worth it for the experience if you wanna have one while you’re there. Easy to find, but not a huge selection...

so far Madrid un poco mas amable que el camino IMO. Maybe it’s a countryside/culture thing. Galicia more reserved? which is beautiful too.

i love this and have read before. it’s just disappointing when u follow all the rules - “buenas tardes” or “buenas” or even “feliz año” and you’re met with silent scowls. But such is life. it’s the same in the US. it doesn’t stop me from putting out good vibes on the camino. just makes me want...

    Locals Only

interesting thread - appreciate the experiences. Like i said, we met many wonderful people (locals. we actually met/saw very few peregrinos). People pointing us toward the path, etc. But some of the interactions, in cafes mostly, were comically cold. it became a game between my daughter and i...

    Locals Only

we had a great time on the Camino Frances. We met some lovely people. But I was surprised at how many locals we met either completely ignored us or were outright rude despite the fact that I speak good Spanish and we were very polite. Does anyone else experience this on the Camino? A few others...

    Christmas 2023 pilgrims, gather here!

yikes! getting concerned about finding an albergue or place to sleep 12/31 New Year's Eve in Palais de Rei. Albergue Zendoira just emailed that they are also closed. Anyone know of a 365/yr albergue in Palais de Rei?

Looks like we'll be in Palas de Rei for New Years Eve. Where's the party at? And where should we stay? Hotels are closed.
