Thanks for all of the replies. I think we are going to book the first night once we decide if we are taking a train right away to our starting point or spending the first night in Madrid. Our flight landing Madrid at 2:35 pm (if on time) then we are starting in Pamplona. Is it reasonable to get...
I noticed a similar thread title last summer but just want to clarify….Is it true that they may ask us for proof of accommodations when we go through customs in Spain? Should we book the first night ahead of time to have that when we enter? What other information should we be prepared to provide...
Thanks! We originally chose the Madrid route but for various reasons (few English speaking, less accommodations for flexibility, doubt about that trek into Segovia, …) and so decided to take the advice to start somewhere in the Frances. There are so many options! I have the feeling that we will...
Thanks so much for all of the prompt advice. We do want to get as much walking in as possible in that week so I think we are planning on flying into Madrid and then taking the 3-4 hr train ride to a spot on the France route and head west. Looks like plenty of accommodations to plan day by day...
I think Madrid was cheaper for us from where we are flying from (Wichita, Kansas) and less complicated flight. I’ll check with my companion…she was looking into the flights and cost there. Thanks for this tip.
My friend and I are planning our first Camino trip in Sept. 2024 and are struggling with choosing a route. The following list includes our wishes in determining a route. We realize that this is a “dream” list and that not all criteria may be met but would like to get any input as we plan based...
Again thanks for all of the advice. We are second guessing our choice of Madrid for our first endeavor. The lack of English speaking people will be difficult for us. I’ll post questions about other options in another thread.
I am a bit concerned about that trek into Segovia. What is the change in altitude, do you know? I backpacked the Grand Canyon last spring and even though it was tough I was fairly well prepared for it. I’m hoping with training this will be doable. Is there any way to break that walk into Segovia...
With the limit on time we did not want to spend a day traveling from Madrid to get to another starting place. Just thought it would be simpler to start close to where we would fly into. Also wanted to avoid major crowds.
Hello!
September 2024 will be my first Camino. My friend and I are planning on walking the Camino de Madrid. We only have 7 days so the plan is to get as far as we can and then train back to Madrid for our flight back home. I’m anticipating a day in Madrid to rest up after our flight and do...
