Bus or Uber from Santiago to airport

Taxi cost me 23€ last Sunday to the airport.Reception called it for me. I think there is no Uber.

    Packing List: Welcome All Comments!

Rain jacket is not a good replacement for a windbreaker. Sometimes, it’s warm, but the wind is chilly, and you’ll sweat heavily in your rain jacket. Also, I’d go for double layer socks as blister prevention (eg Wrightsocks, or just one thin layer and a thick one). Apply Dr Scholl’s Hirschtalg...

LIVE from the Camino Day 5 of the Frances!

Temperatures are currently down to 0 degrees (or a few more), also max temperatures are going down, way below 20 degrees. Some Albergues aren’t heated and still wintery cold.

    Temperature in albergues

I‘ve been on the CF since April 2nd with a silken inliner. Just two nights ago, I got into an albergue with only one other person in a larger dormitory. Badly insulated (just the wooden roof above us), walls still cold from winter, no heating, nights down to 1 degree. Gladly, they’ve got...

    Burgos -> Leon - What's the weather, mid-April 2024?

Today is my 17th day, and I’m having lunch in Leon. The days from Burgos across the Meseta were very similar every day, and weather reports tell me that it won’t change very much: Freezing cold (0-5 degrees C) in the morning at 7 when I started walking. I had all three layers (T-shirt...

LIVE from the Camino For those worried about beds...

Freezing cold is 2 degrees Celsius plus cold Wind. Freezing like when water freezes. Maybe also up to 6 degrees.

Growing numbers on the Camino Portugues - newspaper article

Same number of pilgrims like on CF? Where are the albuerges with 100-200 beds, then, like in Roncesvalles or Pamplona?

A few quick questions before departing on the Francés

    1. Stay out of weekends and Mondays. 2. After Zubiri, stay out of traditional stages. 3. Don’t waste your energy into planning and booking and fears. Fear is the mind killer! Don’t book. You’ll get into the habit of overcompensating and personal bed races. I’m on my 11th day right now...

1,000 Miles in a Lumbar Pack: Ultralight Camino de Santiago Packing List

You’re on to something. I personally have done long, exhausting hikes with only tiny amounts of water. I simply don’t need liters of water for a day’s hike. But all the reminders of “stay hydrated” teached people a fear. "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that...

1,000 Miles in a Lumbar Pack: Ultralight Camino de Santiago Packing List

I considered it mostly for the Caminos where there’s plenty of water for refilling. As for the shoulder harness: I liked the lumbar pack because of muscular issues with the back. doesn’t the harness invert the whole idea? I mean, it sounds like a backpack, then.

LIVE from the Camino For those worried about beds...

I’m on day 10 and just walked into Burgos. Albergues outside of stages at mostly half full. Only special ones might be completo. Mornings are freezing cold very often. At 11 I take off my layers, and consequently get sunburned after. It’s sunny, up to 20 degrees, but the sun really will burn...

1,000 Miles in a Lumbar Pack: Ultralight Camino de Santiago Packing List

I loved this idea and researched a little those lumbar packs. I found a mountainsmith day lumbar which has more volume with 13l. Has anyone experience with that model?

1,000 Miles in a Lumbar Pack: Ultralight Camino de Santiago Packing List

You’re correct when you pack a regular backpack. But this video show how to pack for a lumbar pack which is only around your hip. Adding a bottle of wine isn’t possible there.

    Camino provides - also religiously

That’s true, and I experience those, they are a blessing, indeed. I just wouldn’t consider those as a miracle like the one I reported. Also, it’s my second Camino 😎

    Camino provides - also religiously

Today is my 9th day on the CF. I’d like to share an astonishing story how the Camino provided what I searched for in a religious way: There is the oldest German church song which is sung just once a year in the Eater night: Christ ist erstanden (lots of Kyrie eleison and Halelujah). It didn’t...

Starting 25 April SJPDP - clothing choice

I use a Ortovox soft shell, and I always was fine with it, even at low temperatures. Add layers and you’ll be fine.

Last minute decisons - fleece or puffer?

I’m on my 8th day now. There is a temperature drop to 2 degrees in the morning. I use three layers - shirt, softshell plus windbreaker - to start hiking just before dusk. I’m not cold, and today is the first day that I didn’t put anything off, ending with 12 degrees in the sun. This was the...

    Camino Frances April 2024 advice

Of course, you can switch. It’s a different experience socially and physically. When you walk, you build a Camino family after a short while. Consider, if you want to loose that for the different experiences. The grass is always greener somewhere else 😉

    Camino Frances April 2024 advice

I’m currently in Viana, 6th day on the Frances. Only twice I heard about full albergues - once in Roncesvalles (just reserve your bed before) and yesterday in Villamayor in the Oasis Albergue. I was in the other one and it wasn’t even half occupied. Same in Viana. Just stay out of the proposed...
