Heather, how did you contact the hospitalero from Olivia de Placencia and did he pick you up at the turn off to the track to OdP? Also, similarly with the hospitalero in Aldeneuva del Camino - how did you contact him to be collected?
Thanks so much for the information. I've checked out the Madrid - Plasencia link and can see how it might work well. Would anyone know what a taxi cost from Placencia to Galisteo (about 22kms) would be?
I am hoping to walk part of the VdlP in September 2015. I'm trying to decide where to start from in order to meet my daughter in Ourense on 28 September and then walk into Santiago for the 3 October.
Where is a good place to start? I'm reasonably fit, have walked the camino frances twice, so...
I also attempted to book online for the train from Bayonne to St Jean but the search came up with Bayonee to Cambo les Bains . I contacted Rail Europe to be informed that from Cambo les Bains, it is a bus to St Jean and the bus ticket is to be purchased 'locally' from the bus station, which is...
toilets on the camino
I, too, was disgusted with the toilet waste along the camino. Women, get a female urinary device - this, accompanied by a hankie wipe which is put into a sealy bag and washed at night, will do the trick for most toilet needs. For bowels, as we now expect with dog owners...
Has anyone had any experience of using the Wise Pilgrim app (free) which provides info on stages of the camino (accommodation, bars, water fountains, etc)?? Would this replace a book guide?
While on the Camino, staying at Rabinal, we were asked to only leave stones at Cruz de Fierro. People leave a lot of 'rubbish' (although it may mean something to them) and there has to be the occasional clean-ups where old bikes, socks, boots... are taken away. Please, don't leave ANY rubbish on...
I took pure silk thermals (long johns and t-shirt) - very very lightweight, compact but worth it when required. WOrth the money and, if looked after, is a good investment. I purchased mine online from NZ Nature and they sometime have specials. Worth investigating.
I returned about one month ago from walking SJPDP to Santiago - the amount of litter, graffiti and evidence of human toiletting was astounding! I also noticed that some pilgrims must have felt OK about leaving what I would consider rubbish (old luggage tags, old boots, bottles, etc) as an...
