One of the things that people don't understand is how safe Portugal is. The thied safest country in the world. My wife waljs to her keep fit class twice a week. The class starts at 20.30. She has never once in the last 7 years felt unsafe. In the UK she wouldn't have even considered it. In the...
You almost go past Decathlon as you leave Porto. They sell there own poles for a few euros. Mine have done 3 caminhos and still going strong. Rubber tips are sokd separately.
I grow them here in Portugal. Each plant produces both hot and also sweet ones. Until you eat it you don't know which it is.
I only found out last year that the plants can live for a number of years simply by pruning them lightly in the Autumn. This year I have some from last year that I am...
You will probably find that the toilet paper was taken by another pilgrim so that they don't get caught without any.
Enough said about the few selfish pilgrims.
It could be hot, or cold, or cloudy, or sunny, or rainy. Take your pick. However, it could be all of those, or only one. You can be certain, it is unlikely to snow.
P.S. how long is your piece of string.
They are not usually on a menu. Simply served as a snack in most bars. Unlike those in France, they are small and you get a large bowl for a couple of euros.
Enjoy.
You will be following the caminho route to Fatima. Signed with blue arrows all the way from Santiago to Fatima via Porto. So albergues will be no problem.
This is one of the easiest routes to follow in reverse, as you simply follow follow the blue arrows that are heading to Fatima. Why stop at Porto, you could follow all the way to Fatima.
I live near Fatima and walk there regularly. There are a number of routes that lead there.
If you are walking as part of the route to or from Santiago, it is a beautiful deviation from the Caminho Portuguese. From Lisbon, follow the main route to Santerem, then follow the blue arrows to Fatima...
I have just finished and am in Santiago. No problem with any restrictions on albergues. I did notice howeverthat some close at the end of October for the winter but not because of covid.
After a gap since before Covid. I am back. Catching the train from home to Caminha next Friday, arrivine late morning, then straight off on the Coastal Route, with a bit of a deviation on some of the Littoral and then the Espiritual. Planning to arrive in Santiago on the following Thursday, free...
I am interested in also walking this route, one day but not this year. Do you have a guide book for the route. I hope that you find your accommodation.
Bom Caminho
Thank you for your kind support of the country that you are visiting. Thank you for trying to bend the rules. Thank you for your support to the local population. It is people like you that are really welcome.
I hope that you realise that it is illegal to walk between municipalities for the next two weekends from Friday midnight to Tuesday morning at 6.00a.m. Bom caminho
Thoughts and prayers are with you are with you. Next March is my 70th and I had planned to celebrate in style arriving in Santiago on my birthday. Not to be. Who knows, maybe my 80th. Let's hope not my 90th. However everyone's safety is more important than a pilgrimage. Not just for the...
I retired to Portugal 4 years ago. I am English with both American and Canadian family. If I can help just ask. I have never had a single regret for our decision. One of the benefits is I simply jump on a bus or train anytime I want to walk any of the Camino routes. Life in Portugal is amazing...
But remember, although the Camino is important to pilgrims like you and me, it accounts for less than 1% of tourists to Spain. Fatima receives 10 times as many pilgrims in May that Santiago receives in a year. So everything needs to be put in perspective.
Before the virus, as I live close to...
I understand your pain. I am sorry that many pilgrims do not understand. To many English speaking pilgrims think that they are above the local law. I live in Portugal, I have experienced so many Americans, Brits, Australians, South Africans, etc, màny who live here, actually ignoring the law...
