    Coffee in the morning...

Unfortunately the bar/cafes I've stopped at did not offer free refill. If you don't mind the extra weight, bring a jet boil or backpacking stove so you can heat up something on the go. A cup of noodles will also take you a long way ;-) Buen Camino!

    Coffee in the morning...

Some of the Albergues offer coffee, and if they don't, you should be able to find a cafe/bar along the way. Many of the pilgrims are weight conscious (backpack) and only bring bare essentials. But if you don't mind the extra weight, you can always bring a jet boil to heat your water and whatever...

    Hoping for "The Way" experience

How your Camino experience ends up is all up to you. You have to make an effort to release the extrovert in you and become friendly. A nice smile, a hello, a greeting or a friendly gesture can go a long way when trying to meet new friends along the way. I have been fortunate to have met some...

Biarritz to St Jean Pied de Port

In addition if the train schedule does meet your time frame, you can opt to ride share using a taxi. My friend and I gathered a couple of peregrinos outside the station in Bayone and the five of us paid 25 euros each (125 total). Twice the train fee but we got to SJPD early enough to enjoy the...

    How can I avoid blisters!!!???

Hi My friend and I have walked the Camino 130km each for the last two years and we have been fortunate not to have to deal with blisters. We're avid hikers/backpackers and even though the Camino is more of a long walk and does not require heavy boots. We opted to continue to use our leather...

    Theft and violence by pilgrims

Pilgrims has passed through these farmlands for many years and if this was a big issue, the farmers would have posted signs that say "keep out" or erected a fence to keep pilgrims from "stealing" their crops. Sometimes outsiders can easily judge what they see without considering culture and...

    Camino Frances - September 2012

Hi Lynne, My friend and I arrived in Biarritz last year on the same date. We got to SJPP around 2pm which was early enough to register, checkin to a pension, have a lovely al fresco dinner and walk the town . We figured we"ll need to rest up for the grueling walk up the Pyrenees Range the...

Starting in Roncesvalles in October 2013

My friend and I walked from SJPP last year to Estella from October 1st to the 7th and it was warm with many pilgrims along the way. We had rain one day but it was nice as it helped cool things down. The evenings were comfortable and we walked around the town with t-shirts, no jacket required. We...

    Walking in Oct 2013.

Hello MrsMac My friend and I walked the Camino at the same time in 2012 and surprisingly there are still many pilgrims starting the walk from SJPP. Although we only walked for a week to Eatella, we never felt alone. Going thought the Pyrenees to reach Roncesvalles can be challenging. The last...

    Reservation made at Orisson, but.......

From what I can remember Orisson is not very far from SJPDP. I believe it was only about 7-8km away. However, if you are planning to go through the Pyrenees Range to Roncesvalles it's a good 28km. Bring lots of water as the water source at about 20th km may or may not be available. There is a...

Backpacks… Do I try overhead or as checked luggage?

It's always a good idea to protect the buckles and straps from getting damage during transport. We placed our backpacks in an inexpensive lightweight nylon duffle bag. It was easy enough to fold and stuff in our packs. It hardly took up any room. Burn camino ;-)
