My Camino was a great adventure with me the explorer!
So I just took one of my two cats' names ( the female) because it matched the kids TV show ...Dora the Explorer. I could have picked the other cat and been Go Diego Go. My Camino was this year-13.

My Camino was wonderful!! I highly recommend the Caminho Portuguese.
I walked alone almost all of it, but met up with people at the albergues in the evening. I liked it this way. Most people travelled faster than me. I took 15 days resting for one due to a sore leg (shin splints).. I am glad I...
Thx for the bus seat tip Jim.
I arrived Santiago this afternoon and will take bus tomorrow.. Think just for the day. Then a full day of tourist in Santiago on Friday... With Friday night mass.

So my Portuguese Camino is taking a big longer than expected due a sore right shin.
I will not be able to walk to the coast. I am trying to decide if I should take a bus.
My question .. Is it worth while taking a bus to the coast .. Or should I just enjoy Santiago.
Dora the explorer...
Heather,
I am glad you have sorted out your feet!! I am waiting to board my plane in Vancouver... via Montreal.. Geneva for a few, before my start in Porto!!!!
I guess the arrows will good enough for me to follow- you won't have to leave breadcrumbs!

I bought the arcteryx at Valhalla Pure, not MEC. Forget the actual jacket name. I picked up a pair of cool max and Marino wool socks, and trying a pair of Bamboo/wool as well. Have not tried toes socks since sometime in the 1970's!! I have thought of trying the running toe shoes though. But...
For the record it's raining something crazy just north of Vancouver, BC. I bought a new Arcteryx jacket and pants, cover for the pack from MEC.... I'm still deciding on socks... with less than 6 weeks until I touch down in Porto.

Hi Ella and Laurie
...and others on the forum and on the Camino..
Laurie I hope you are dry wherever you are! (Perhaps somewhere past Vila de Conde).
Ella I am a few weeks behind you in departure (nov 6), but getting very excited as well!
I don't speak Portuguese or Spanish ... I think this...
Ella_leah I would be interested in hearing about your plans for your first few days. Will you take transit to Motsinhos to start? I plan on walking along the river and was hoping to then stay in Motsinhos, as I hear there is a Refugio there. But not sure where.
Thanks.... I can't believe it's almost time. I wonder how many other pilgrims I will meet. Wish I spoke Portuguese or Spanish... Probably would help meeting locals.
Hi All,
Start from Porto on Nov 6 - my 50th! I will head south from the Cathedral, follow Rio Douro to the coast which should add a day I guess. Plan to head inland at Vila de Conde .... and then ... sometime after that I will get to Santiago.... there is no rush.
Do I really need a walking stick for the Porto to Santiago route. I have hiked/ backpacked many times over the years and never used a walking stick.
Advice ..?
I am planning on starting out in Porto on Nov 6th and like the idea of walking from the cathedral along the waterfront, rather than taking a bus. It would be nice to walk a little bit farther than 5km the first day though. Are there other good placing stay farther along?
