    March 2014 Pilgrim

Only half crazy, starting at the end of March.... I'm leaning towards tenting most of it and mail ration drops (3-5 days) ahead of time. Not sure if anyone has done this before. Peace of Passage!

I received an early trip gift today, (2) 3000mAH emergency battery packs (USB). They are really nice and includes a led flashlight and SOS mode beacon. Really cool and light weight. They really have come a long way with battery technology.

    France-Camino: Mar/Apr/May 2014

I've used that before in the past. My Dad was a ScoutMaster back in the 70's and while living In Southern California, we would hike into the High Sierra Mtn. Also, I've heard mention of using Sportslick, curious in those results. I plan on trying several options but definitely Merino wool...

    Backpack advice

Karen, Since i'm traveling in March as well, ( SJPD ) I will be taking an AMK SOL Escape Bivy with a very light liner bag for extra comfort. I'm thinking this, along with my cold compress long underwear will be sufficient for me. I use the underarmor compress for snowboarding and it does a...

If you want solitude, don't walk the Camino Frances

I couldn't agree more Phillypilgrim. I hope that to be my experience in my Journey. While the social aspect was not in my decision process, fellowship and learning to master others is a reflection of one's inner peace. “Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering...

If you want solitude, don't walk the Camino Frances

Your "Experience" is that Solitude is only Physical? You've never been alone in your mind, silent, reflecting of your life in the proximity of others? It is said that those who shun Solitude, shun self truth. You think there is any truth in that assertion? "Solitude can actually be stressful...

If you want solitude, don't walk the Camino Frances

Of which state do you make this assertion? To inject that it is something strictly bound to a physicality is rather presumptuous. Solitude is the reflection of self truth, in silence, wherever you may seek it. “Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?” ―...

If you want solitude, don't walk the Camino Frances

Sillydoll, I don't think there's anything controversial about your opinion. I chose this route for personal reasons as I'm sure all do, none of mine which factors a social element. Yes, it is part of the route but, for me, nothing to avoid nor embrace. If your saying that my pilgrimage is...

    France-Camino: Mar/Apr/May 2014

Hi Karen, I'm still in the planning stage. It will most likely be the 29th or 30th I leave SJPD. Weather is a concern. I'm trying to get the best of both weather and solitude given my available schedule. I love company but just not too much, lol. Buen Camino! Chris

    France-Camino: Mar/Apr/May 2014

Sillydoll, Cellphone, check! I will be taking an Emergency Bivy just in case bad weather socks me in route. I agree, talking to the locals is smart, given the limited supplies I will be packing. Thanks!

Cheryl, Thanks for the insight. What was your experiences with the Hostels in Paris? I'm looking to save as much money as possible since I'm going for 40 days. One reason I was think of returning to Paris, just so much to see and do. I may even try and sneak in London for a few days. Maybe I...

Dale, thanks for the open jaw ticket idea. I honestly never heard of such a thing but this is only my first trip trekking abroad. Did a 12 day med cruise but both in/out of Barcelona.

It would appear that round trip flights are cheaper from the US than one-way flights. Plus, I want to take in as much of the museums in Paris as possible. I'm thinking I might recruit the assistance of a travel agent.

Hello, I am new to the forum. I am planning my Journey for March 2014. I plan to fly into Paris from NJ/USA and sight see for a few days and then rail to SJPD. I have been reading as much as I can to be well informed. Hopefully my brother, who has trekked Scotland a few times will accompany me...

    The Camino Curse

Hi Pieces, I'm new to this forum. I think you should get out that tape recorder and have a journey of the mind. I just finished the book yesterday and it was a wonderful read. It was a gift from my mother-in-law, she had read it years ago with the thought of one day making the journey. Time and...
