I am not going through Paris. I fly from Washington to Newark. I have a 6 hour layover in Newark. Then fly to Madrid. I arrive in Madrid next morning and take train from Madrid to Pamplona. I am met at train station in Pamplona by Istvan from Corazon Puro and stay the night there. Then he takes...
Keith,
Boy can I relate to not looking forward to flight. I wish "Scotty" could "Beam me over." It is even longer from the west coast. It will take me more than 2 days to reach St Jean. I will be very jet/travel lagged!!! But I leave here Wednesday morning. Yeah!
You will be fine. Lots of people are afraid of anything out of the ordinary so they are sure those who do something a little different will come to some bad end, not because YOU will but because THEY are afraid. My Doctor's nurse is always afraid for me when I go on a long hike. I am 72 years...
Ullamae,
Your body will appreciate the effort you have put in to get in shape before starting even though you have fatigue now. Also, I find that once I am on a trail and not also doing the thousand and one other little things that creep into any day at home and I can just focus on walking...
Ullamae,
I leave Washington State the same day you leave Sweden. It just takes me lots longer to get to St Jean. I will be so jet/travel lagged! You will be in Roncevalle before I leave St Jean. Buen Camino and I hope to see you somewhere.
As you have seen there are options and everyone has their favorite. Another plug for the umbrella - similar to the Packa, it keeps that space between your pack and your back dry, is also a blessing in hot weather for shade and I can wear very little under it if the weather is warm though rainy...
Hi T-Rex,
I would chime in to suggest Dri Ducks. The whole rainsuit is $30, I think. And Galicia is rainy too. And cold can happen even when not expecting it. Dri Ducks are also the lightest raingear I have found outside of Cuben Fiber, which is VERY pricey. Makes a great windbreak too. Fits...
Ullamae, I surely do relate to your last post. The last 4 days have been so crammed with things to do I think I have met myself coming and going. Walking will be a wonderful, simple time, a relief from too many details to attend to, just simply walk. Soon, ready or not.
I'm in this general timeframe too. Another slow hiker. Tan pack, purple long sleeve shirt, bright pink short sleeve one, black jacket, green raingear. I guess I am of changing colors but the hair is white and stays the same. Leaving in a bit more than 2 weeks now. We will all be wearing grins.
There is no need to harp on the theologies of communion here as if one is right and one is wrong. We come from different backgrounds and have different understandings and beliefs. And we are unlikely to change another's mind in such exchanges. Roman Catholicism leans more heavily on the church...
I am a retired Lutheran Pastor. I will be on the Camino Frances April and May. I always carry Holden Evening Prayer with me on long hikes. I would be happy to sing Holden Evening Prayer and/or share communion with anyone who wishes it in any albergue at which I stop along the way.
Question: If a Pastor of a non-Roman Catholic brand was walking the Camino, would it offend sensibilities for them to offer a service of evening prayer with communion to anyone who happened to want to attend?
Nice discussion. In the US on long trails or even short hikes on a hot day I usually doff the shirt and just wear the sports bra. Usually black. In my estimation it is clothes, not just underwear. Much more comfortable. Regretfully, I suppose that will not be appropriate on the Camino. Besides...
I always have a journal up on Trailjournals.com under the trailname Medicare Pastor. I am not very techie but perhaps this is the right thing to access: http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=16575
