Hi Annie
I started from Madrid on April 7 this year. A few days later there was rain, hail, sleet and snow flurries on the day into Cercedilla. We had to take the train from Cercedilla to Segovia because the mountain route was closed by snow (but only for one or two days, I think). Had a very...
Hi Tuula
It was nice to meet you in Medina del Rioseco and I’m glad to know what you did next. I finished the Camino de Madrid with Judy and then went to Oviedo to start the Primitivo. 5 days in and best (and hardest) Camino day ever over the Hospitales route yesterday in beautiful weather...
There was a roster of volunteer hospitaleros on the wall - only a couple of weeks between now and September / October not covered, so it should be fine for when you walk through. Take food, just in case 🙂
This was taken yesterday, walking out of Fuencarral. Lots of snow, so I’m thinking that it may not be possible to go over the Puente de Fuenfria pass day after tomorrow. Will check on the day.
Thanks, Nick. I’m starting on Sunday 7 so, like marjude, I’ll be reading your posts. It will be great to have the up to date information. BTW, I’ve booked Tres Cantos for Sunday night. Buen Camino! Christine
We stayed Chez Nadine last year, and it was a pleasant experience with a good and generous dinner en famille. They have great pride in their region and its specialties, and we enjoyed their Armagnac. The accommodation was excellent and very comfortable. Nadine keeps a clear demarcation between...
I bought the Peak Aspiration recently, after also trying on the Featherlite Freedom. It is bigger than strictly needed but, like you, I will use it on other trips where I need to carry food and more gear. I think the FF would be perfect for a warm weather, pared-down packing Camino, and for a...
Thank you for your good wishes and kind thoughts, Viranani. It was a wild, shaky, scary night in Wellington but thankfully my house was OK with just a few things falling off shelves, and I'm not in the tsunami zone, so didn't have to evacuate. A group of neighbours came over and stayed till...
I've stayed in this women-only hostel in Trastevere a couple of times: http://www.orsamaggiorehostel.com Good value and well-located, with a rang of rooms including dorms; popular with students and visiting academics. I see from their website that they close at 11pm, so may not suit you.
Thanks for the heads-up, Mike. My friends overseas have told me about the movie, so I'm glad it's coming to NZ eventually. Will surely sign up for the updates.
Christine
Hi Grace,
I walked the Via de La Plata in March / April. I enjoyed the municipal albergue in Tabara, taken over this year by the wonderful Jose and Josefina who gave me a true pilgrim welcome and dinner. And Josefina gathers the dirty clothes and washed them in the machine.
I live in...
