    Trekking Poles or Staff???

I walked SJPP to Santiago with two old twist lock hiking poles (purchased many years ago). I felt I needed them most of the way and got into an easy rhythm. I had surgery to my tibia in the recent past, needed the extra support (physical and mental) as I was fairly unfit at the start. I...

    The last 100 km

We flirted with the idea of a hotel night in Sarria until we were told the price, the Alfonso was 200 euros a night, the same chain in Burgos was just 65 euros. Oh well, we were happy with an albergue in the old part of town at 20 euros. The biggest difference from then on in was the number of...

    September 2014 Peregrinos

Our Camino journey began in SJPP on 4 September 2014 and successfully ended approx 800kms later in Santiago on 10 October 2014. We arrived home this week after staying on for extra time in Europe. We faced physical and mental challenges every day and had transformations. We met some lovely...

Things I lost on the Camino

I lost/left an elastic clothes line in Portomarin. Our clothes were removed from the dryer after a French group decided they would take over our remaining drying time (grrrr) so I had to hang it on the end of the bed. That night we also lost a few hours sleep due to another group drinking too...

    Backpack, vitamins, and gastronomy questions!

Totally agree with a couple of responses as above about the metal bar in you pack - if you remove it you will lose some weight but your pack will be heavier on your shoulders. The bar is designed to transfer your pack weight to your hips.

    Walking training app!!

We have enjoyed using RunKeeper. The 5 min updates were good to get us up to speed initially but do get a bit annoying so have muted this and only turn back on when the activity is over. We have alternated between selecting walking and hiking activities depending on paved or unpaved terrain...

    September 2014 Peregrinos

Trailjournals.com After 3 postings a journal becomes "visible" and findable through the Camino de Santiago listings for the relevant year. Easy to use, accepts photos and is a well run and established site for many trails, tracks and walks worldwide. Updating daily and sharing your own...

    September 2014 Peregrinos

Hi, we are a couple from Perth in Western Australia intending to start our Camino from SJPP on 4th September 2014 and head halfway up the mountain (yes we have booked) that day. Whilst we are trying to walk each day to get our fitness level up and the shoe selection correct, the reality is that...
