I think it's a super cool story. Thanks for sharing. I just googled what 2 stone weighs in kilograms... Wow. That's one heavy cape.
I'll have to try to find his blog now. As for all the "he shouldn't take technology" etc people... Get off your high horses. Would you prefer he wrote his letters...
It is impressive isn't it. I'm not a church goer (I'm gay and transgender so I've had some bad experiences with the Catholic Church as an institution but I pray every day in the Blue Sky Cathedral). But the call of all those Cathedrals where I can pray in peace to give thanks for having been...
My question is not based on not wanting to spend the money. But it is based on first principles - why charge for an official stamp book? Why not allow walkers to determine how they record the stamps to prove they walked? Why require an official document at all? The need for an official document...
But why require an official credential in the first place? That's the point I am getting at. Surely if the point is to show that you walked the Way then the stamps should be sufficient.
But what would I know? I am walking this winter for what will be my one and only Camino because it is just...
I'm also calm. I just think that this looks like a really great excuse to make money. I honestly believe you should be able to use any piece of paper you choose to show the stamps, including a travel journal, post cards, guide book etc. Any document containing all the stamps that clearly shows...
I was upgraded on a recent Etihad flight from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi. Business class was amazing. Full flat bed and plenty of space (but I am only 167cm tall). I wouldn't pay the extra money myself but it was a fantastic experience for free. Haha
So the Camino is commercial not about the walk. Why shouldn't someone be able to walk the way and collect the stamps on whatever document they like so long as it shows they walked past all the required locations? the more I read about the Camino the more I tend to think that it is another human...
I think it's a short sighted proposal. The Camino is a major source of economic income for Spain (it must be given the number of pilgrims who walk it) so to reduce the incentive to walk at a time when many nations are struggling economically doesn't make sense. The Camino is an arbitrarily...
The Way is personal to everyone. We all walk for our own reasons and in our own way. Just as we live our own way. I've been harassed over the past two years I many hostels and camping grounds for using a laptop at night either to work, blog or watch movies. But what makes sitting around talking...
Have a great Camino. We might bump into each other too. I depart Burgos on 25 January heading towards Santiago de Compastella.
I like the advice of those who say not to stress too much about over planning / analysing. I'm a first time pilgrim but have been traveling a lot the past two years in...
Thank you Peter :)
I see you are a Dutchman. I am too (by birth) and will actually be in the Netherlands prior to my departure on the Camino. I'll be spending some time visiting family then traveling Poland before returning to Holland again. I am flying home after my Camino from Schiphol. I...
We might bump into each other on the Way too Mountain Goat. I am leaving Burgos on 25 January. Winter will be a challenge for me because I live in the sub tropics but I have a full month on Holland and Poland from 27 December before my departure on the CF. I am excited about the experience as it...
As I think you mentioned earlier, we might meet each other on the Way. I begin in Burgos on 25 January. I am staying at Happy Hostal Carrales the night before my departure. You'll know me because if there is even the tiniest patch of snow I'll be taking photos of it and playing in it. This is...
I will be starting my Camino in Burgos on 25 January 2016. I am looking forward to the experience. Yes it will be cold and probably wet but weather is weather and my window of opportunity is here so I will just take it as it comes.
Maybe some of us will see each other out there on the Walk.
Flight to Madrid booked. Hotel in Burgos booked. I am now committed. I arrive in Burgos by bus on 24 January to start my Camino on 25 January. It's been a long time coming with many false starts. But that's just my journey. I have until 13 February (20 days) to reach Santiago. Whether or not...
Would an option be to use a wheelchair bicycle? Have someone ride the bicycle with her in the front in a wheelchair-like seat? Or for someone to push her in a wheelchair?
I'm not sure her condition but if I were the waller or cyclist helping her id have her name put on the certificate so am...
