    Scanning Credential and Laminating Compostela

Hi Maurice, I agree entirely that such documents are meaningful, but may I belatedly suggest that lamination is NOT good for them. A friend is a curator in a museum and advises that a simple glass frame with a paper and cardboard backing is a much safer way to preserve the documents...

    Astorga to Molinaseca

I walked all of that last week-all good. The San Javier albergue near the cathedral is still closed but all else was fine. Snow at Foncebadon was interesting and many (including me) chose to walk down on the road edge because the path was very slippery. Strongly recommend Albergue de Santa...

    Overcrowding in Santiago

Oh Tinca, Love it!!!! Astute and amusing! If you were an Aussie we’d call you “a bit of a dag” and love you for it Digger

    Cadiz Association

Hi, Does anyone have a current email address for the Cadiz Association supporting Via Augusta? Two attempts to cut & paste from their web page have failed. Thank you, Digger

Are you a hiker or a walker?

Perhaps the appropriate verb is chosen for us by location or circumstance: I’ve rambled on the Yorkshire Moors and tramped the Milford Track, Hiked half the Appalachian, still hoping to go back. I’ve trudged up half the Munros, been trekking in Nepal Bushwalked in the Dandenongs where...

Which are the “wilder” (least paved, most rural) Spanish routes?

Between Almeria and Granada in early May I met only 9 pilgrims over 8 days. The scenery was superb and the walking surfaces (outside the towns) were varied and interesting. Steep, even difficult at times, this route gave me the most intense personal joy of all my paths so far. Mozarabe was...

Pilgrims from Australia and the wonderful New Zealand

Hi Sarah, Five trips to Spain and going again in March. The flight costs are what we pay for living where we live. There are no ways around that so we try to add value by tacking on other activities; a cruise, a road trip in a hire car, a visit to friends, etc. This does nothing to reduce...

    Via Augusta - Apr '23

Hi Kev & Kath, I'm planning to walk Via Augusta in March next year. I have no problem with long stages and I prefer the quieter paths. I haven't been able to find many albergues. (I have just contacted the amigos for suggestions) Did you have to use hotels/pensiones a lot? Thanks, Digger

Best book for my friends who aren't familiar with the Camino?

Of the seven camino books in my own library that I enjoyed enough to buy, Jack Hitt's "Off The Road" remains IMHO the best all rounder. Humourous, inciteful and very well researched, I suggest that for group discussion it will fit the bill.

Hiking the Mozárabe from Almería: What to Expect with Riverbed Walking in Mid-late April

It wasn't too bad in 2018. The river bed gets used as a road in many places and it was smoother than expected. Keep an eye out for vehicles and farm machinery approaching from behind. The views coming out of the river and up the mountain are absolutely fantastic

Have you been married a long time?

After 48 years it seems to me that tolerance & forgiveness form the "glue". One being a little deaf and the other having less than perfect vision may also have helped. Hi R hope your tribe is all well. More info via PM if you need it.

    The Camino will be waiting...Australians

Good thought Kanga, Perhaps we can swap suggestions between locals on how to keep things ticking over. I'm lucky to be in Gippsland. Wilsons Prom, The Strzeleckies, and Ninety Mile Beach are all within cooee. Local bushwalking clubs abound and between intermittent spates of lockdown I've been...

    Mozarabe needs hospitaleros

Hi Raggy, I'm interested. Ditto to C Clearly questions. Plus how would a hospitalero enforce limits? Alboloduy is tiny and a long way (27k?) from the next town. I don't recall any private facitilies there. Digger

LIVE from the Camino Camino Levante - Occasional updates from a walker

About smiles in Valencia: An extract from my log- 21 May 2018. At about 0730 the doors opened. I asked the chap for the office of the credencial stamper and he replied that he was the stamper but added he didn’t stamp anything before 1030. I asked politely why this was so and was told “It’s...

New version of full walk videos published for CF

Thank you John, It's very good of you to take the trouble to make this available to everyone. Restrictions in Victoria limit us to walks within 5 km of home - getting old very fast. Videos like yours make my treadmill much more palatable.

Your All Time, Absolute BEST Camino Moment!

Oh Jenny, What a good idea! Gripped by cabin fever, and heartily sick of bathroom renovation, your thread prompted me to look back through my old journals. This excerpt describes what has to be right up there amongst my best moments (so far). 10 May: Quéntar to Granada -20. Up early again -...

    Disparaging "The Way"

Getting back - sort of - to my original point, for those of you who have expressed such positive sentiments about the film, you might be interested in the book which Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez published called “Along the Way”, which sets their personal life-story in counterpoint to their...

    Almeria vs Malaga

In my humble opinion: The views along the way from Almeria are a huge attraction. Some of the albergues are outstanding. The Almeria Association is extraordinarily helpful. Tip: Get your stamp the day before you start as the office opens late in the mornings.
