Continuing out of Leon March 2023

The ascent to O Cebreiro was okay for us — we were advised to take the river route out of Villafranca del Beirzo and found it more picturesque than the highway. TRick sections were definitely the descent into El Acebo after the Cruz de Ferro; and the descent into Portomarin (marked as the...

    Passport warning — expiration date

Most countries are able to do 'expedited' passports within a few days — for a fee of course — but that might save complications with bookings.

    Monkeypox?

I've just returned from the Camino Frances — Albergues provide disposable sheets and, following Covid protocols, usually mop the rooms with bleach. They generally do not provide blankets, if you are cold, use your sleeping bag. I think there is very low likelihood of catching monkeypox from...

    Aggressive scammers near Barbadelo

Last year I saw them actually operating inside the church in Sarria - they have no shame or respect. I warned a couple of pilgrims who looked like they were being taken in by them and they thanked me. There were others near Casanova on the track. I waved them off and kept walking.

Worthy side trips on the Camino Frances.

There is also a tour available from Burgos museum of human evolution that goes to the archeological site at Atapuerca - where 1.2m year old hominid remains were found, and evidence of continuous occupation through homo antecedent, neanderthal and homo sapiens (modern humans) - it is a tour of a...

My 2.2 Kilo/4.3 Pound CF Packing List

Great going! It's a pity Sierra Trading Post doesn't ship to Australia - but will have to check out silk shirts and undies from elsewhere. My pack last year was 8kg including pack, but aiming for nearly half that for the next one.
