Just in case there are some Dutch people reading this: The management of the albergue in Roncesvalles is assisted by hospitaleros of the Dutch Santiago Society. They are always in need of volunteers to fill the 8 to 10 teams that rotate every two weeks from April to November. Website with more...
I 'am' hospitalera at the albergue in Roncesvalles (two weeks a year yay!). The albergue accepts bags from Bourricot (the carrier) and will help you to forward it to the next place, if that's what's needed. Buen Camino, take care!
Don Valentin, one of the priests in residence, used to do a tour of the church and if you were lucky, the church tower too. Around 6pm, before dinner and/or mass. I hope he is still there, as I'm looking forward to my third volunteering time in June this year, at magic Roncesvalles! If you're...

Thank you so much for this post about donativo. I have taught online yoga on a donativo basis for the last 3 months. I shared the Zoom link for free (still do actually). It took some time to make people understand what donativo actually is. I called it 'equal access to services for all...
One of the many super fun aspects of the hospitalera job in Roncesvalles for me, is the daily donativo yoga classes I offer. Every day we stretch, relax, breathe, recover from the shock of crossing the Pyrenees with a backpack on, and thank our legs and feet for carrying us. This happens on the...
For an interesting albergue experience try the mini albergue of Veronique Miramon in Bayonne, almost next to the cathedral. veronique.miramon@sfr.fr is her email. She speaks French and English (and perhaps more). I had a special time there, she is an eccentric, but caring woman, I loved my stay...
At the parador on Praca Obradoiro (cathedral square in SdC) in the lobby there is a poster advertising a workshop on queimada. I phoned the number and the lady said that if you get a group of people together, she would do the workshop. Of course I didn't take a picture of the poster or the...
Me too! I love your shop! I was there for the second time last year. Every time I'm in Pamplona, I come and buy something from you, be it a hair clip or a shell necklace.. :) Sorry this happened to you, great you had some clear footage (I assume the police have got this now).
That's great news! It was devastating in Roncesvalles to get up at 5.30am to find at least 15 distressed pilgrims downstairs, who had lost their valuables, phones, everything! Buen Camino everyone, keep yourself and your valuables safe and secure. From a hospitalera who was there when it happened.
Friday 1 June at Roncesvalles, more than 5 people lost money and passports. The thieves check in as pilgrims, steal stuff at night and disappear before wake up time. Keep your valuables close to your body at all times, under the pillow at night is not close enough! From hospitalera at...
I am currently working in the Roncesvalles albergue. You can pitch your tent on the lawn there and for 3 euros they let you use the showers and toilets.
