I did the Salvador last September. I wore Hoka mid GTX and was really glad of the support especially crossing the Cordillera de Cantabrica (I think day 3). The descents can also be a bit treacherous. Personally I wouldn’t wear a trail runner with little ankle support on this Camino. However , I...
I’ve walked the Sanabres twice as a finale to both the VdlP (2018) and the Levante(2022). The Sanabres wins hands down for me over the Frances. Plenty of opportunity for solitude and beautiful ‘naturaleza’ but with adequate infrastructure to support your journey. I’d recommend the Sanabres 😊
I too stayed at Hostal Asturias and was similarly impressed. Proprietor was friendly and accommodating, picked me up from the Roman ruins as with you and I also had all my washing done overnight for a reasonable cost.
I am on the Levante at the moment and the scarcity of albergues and the...
The only real difference with the Elige seat is that you get to choose where you sit (elegir = Spanish verb to choose) with Basic you get allocated seat. I travelled RENFE a lot over recent years and ways go for the cheapest. You always have a seat allocated so if you are not particular about...
I’ve always used Compeed products. Both the patches and the anti blister stick which I rub on my feet every morning before the socks (merino wool without a seam) go on. I’ve used both Meindl and Hoka footwear because they have wide fitting’s available for someone with duck’s feet like me . No...
Well worth a try if you don’t fancy the municipal albergue. casa Tomas was destroyed by fire in Jan 2018 and has now been beautifully restored. Still €15 per person in a two/three or 4 bedded room. Food in the bar downstairs very good. Host genial and very welcoming to peregrinos
Hi all. If, like me you have been travelling with just a sleeping bag liner and using the albergue blankets for warmth, please be aware that the municipal in Lubian does not supply blankets. €3 is pretty cheap anyway but you might have to wear a couple of layers overnight. I was warm at lights...
Just a quick note re this stage. The AVE works have chopped up the Camino a bit for the time being and diversions are in place so be prepared to do a bit of road walking on N525 fortunately quite scenic buen Camino
Hi James, I’ve been walking since 11th April and never had a major problem finding a bed. The particular glitch I’m talking about has been caused by the closing of a 40 bed private Albergue which could supplement the space provided by the 13 bed municipal. Planning is the key as there are other...
Tuesday 15 May 2018. Although it appears in many of the guides, IT’S CLOSED! Seems to be so until further notice. The alternative in Santa Marta de Tera 1km onward but only 12 beds in the donativo. You’ll either have to get to this municipal early or give this place a miss. We have already run...
Usually check Gerald Kelly the night before (2016 edition) and use the app as I go along. I just found the way marks a bit confusing in the village and immediately after the motorway underpass. No issue really. Other PeregrInos will probably have no probs.
Have just arrived in Calzada de Valdunciel after a frustrating exit from Salamanca. Other pilgrims I’ve met today agree the way marking in Aldeaseca de la Armiñá is confusing after the exit from the village so be aware. Also my ‘Wise Pilgrim’ app which has so far been a great help completely...
Hi Ellen. Update ...... Italica was out en today so it should be the same tomorrow. Bad news..... the arroyo was impassable so we had to turn left just before and go via the road (it’s signposted) which added a few km and was hard on the feet. There is an alternative route that starts soon after...
Hi Ellen. Just been to the Amigos office on Calle Castillo 82. They tell me the arroyo may need to be waded but not too deep. I’ll let you know how I get on with stage one tomorrow. By the way, the Amigos tell me that the Roman Amphitheater in Santiponce is closed at the moment as they are doing...
Thanks Carel5. A great help. I have a prep day in Seville the day before I start on 11th so I will attempt to check out the amigos de la VdlP to see if they have any up to date info on the arroyo and share if I can on this thread. Not long now!
Hi Jean Claude. The Feria runs from 14th to 21st April. Seville will be crammed and expensive. I’m in Hotel Simon 9/10 and starting VdlP on 11th. Rates were reasonable. Buen Camino!
Hi Hamish. Leaving Seville on 11th April will check with the Amigos office the day before re the stream on the way to Guillena and what route to take if it is flooded. Looking forward to meeting up!
