Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

Today we walked round the lake at Stover Park. There were several coot families with their chicks as we walked round the lake. The lake itself, which had been very overgrown, has been cleared and is being dredged as part of the restoration project. The silt will be dried and used in the woods to...

Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

So far today it has been wet so we have only walked around the house. Very local :) . However sitting with a cup of tea we saw 2 goldfinches on the fence. Not a great quality photo as it was taken on my old phone and through the window. The sun is coming out now - so off for a short walk.

Also from Vilar de Donas - taken in May 2016 - including one of the wall paintings.

Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

Another Devon view. The paths across the fields are finally drying out and the trees are coming into leaf. We look forward to walking up the hill again and along the hilltop (at the left).

Where do ( did ) you walk locally in 2024?

Earlier in the year we posted a photo of the sea wall at Teignmouth, Devon. (post #122) Visiting again today we walked around town and then towards the sea wall. This is the view looking back towards the pier with the Ness headland behind it and the coast at Torbay in the background. The River...

    Little sculptures

Two interesting 'windows' in the old church of San Salvador de Valdediós (C Primitivo), near Oviedo. They are both carved from a single piece of stone and are on either side of the doorway. The doorway is from the monastery - also at Valdediós

    public transport on Camino Primitivo

When we walked we found that the buses do not run between Grandas de Salime (Asturias) and Fonsagrada (Galicia), although there are taxis at a price. It might be worth checking whether this is still how they work. Also the ALSA only ran once a day from Oviedo through to Grandas so checking...

    Editing of posts turned off?

I have just tried over on the 'Little sculptures' thread. Photo and text posted ok and text then edited with no problem. Using Ubuntu (Linux) with Chromium (=Chrome) browser on a laptop. For the photo - for some time I have had to click on 'insert image' then the 'drop here' rectangle to choose...

    Little sculptures

The doorway of the church in LLanes (C de Norte) has lovely carving on the archway, including several animals.

Where to buy an electric kettle

Depending on how much water you need to boil at a time the electric coil as an alternative to a kettle might be better. We carried an electric coil heater, lighter and easier to pack than a kettle. Again a hardware store should have one or try Amazon and check it has 2 pin plug etc. On one...

where to get pilgrim passport in Santiago or Lugo

Another option:- When we walked the cathedral offices were opposite the west door of the Cathedral in Lugo - up the steps. Opening hours were limited but we received our stamp there. At that time there was no cathedral shop so things might have changed :)

    Market days along the Primitivo

in addition to my post above there is also this list of markets, with an interactive map, covering the whole of Asturias - that would help with seeing which are on the Camino... it is from 2023 so the other site has more up to date lists.

    Market days along the Primitivo

There is a list of markets on week-days at the website Mercadillos semanal or the English version at Weekly markets in Asturias - note that Thursday onwards comes after the online section in both Spanish and English sites. Also this old thread has some more days but it looks as though they...

    Covadonga?

Way back in 2013 we planned to walk the GR105 route from LLanes, but instead walked the Camino de la Reina picking the way-marks up from Arriondas. We took the FEVE from Llanes to Arriondas. The route from there was good. You can see our stages on our blog at Walking Around: June 2013 ...

    Little sculptures

These are from the churches in Betanzos (Camino Inglés) in the old town: Santiago, Santa Maria (2) and San Francisco. The last was built by the Andrade family and the boar is part of their family emblem.

    Little sculptures

This figure is from Pontedeume (Camino Inglés) and I assume it is from the church. Taken in 2011 and not labelled :(. Maybe some-one can fully identify it for us please.
