Hi... as a straight older guy who walked that route some years ago there were times where 'acceptance' was not forthcoming. It happens to everyone for a lot of reasons not necessarily to do with you - the mistake would be to put down to being part of the gay community.
haha lots of advice ... and these definitely worth a look ... did the Madrid/San Salvador in the MK1 version and they were great...bit fiddly to start but the toes stretch a bit so soon fit snugly and hey ya got all day anyway so a minute longer in the morning vs blisters hmmmmm ???
will buy...
Compeed Anti friction stick applied each morning to potential hot spots as a precaution n Creepers Merino toe socks did it for me on Madrid and San Savador caminos last year. Rule 1 of caminos ..Look after feet from Day One p.s. soak n wash socks b4 wearing !
Having walked the Camino Madrid last year may I suggest you take a day or 3 extra and visit Segovia - a mere 100km from Madrid. A magical city and 30mins by train from Madrid. It was a highlight of the Madrid Camino.
Great info thanks. Can I assume then the VdLP from Seville is similar to the Mozarabe from Granada to Merida which we did pre Covid ? Loved the Mozarabe but was thinking the Via may be too flat in comparison from previous posts ? Any feedback of Merida to Salamanca also appreciated. Gracias
Hi... looking thru the thread I see not much mention of the Madrid Camino itself. 7 days starting in Madrid (or a short train ride out to start at Tres Cantos) would get you as far as Coca and with it a big variety of terrain, villages palaces, castles etc. Plus it would allow a day in stunning...
Albeit not dinner - Walking the Madrid last year which also can be sparse food-wise, for breakfast we took milk powder (mixed the night b4 if a fridge) , bought cereal and fruit and so had a good breakfast b4 hitting the road in the morning. Worked a treat and so any stops along the way were a...
We three Kiwis did this in May albeit a wee bit shorter days. So good to follow your walk. If u get this in time there is a big ex hotel at Puerto de Pajores - looks closed but the bar/cafe is open. Great coffee and great views. Then walk down the road - a bit dodgy but no far and the track...
Sound advice for anyone methinks. We are constantly amazed at both the distances and the lack of days off/rest days to have time to stop..look around..explore .. and enjoy the beauty (and otherwise sometimes) of Spain. Tho to each his own I guess !?
Confirm the above.. also Avanto about 1.5km out of town.. as u enter town take the last left hand road before the main road. It goes behind the Repsol gas station.. follow dirt road and it seems to veer away from the main road but there is a track back to Avanto sitting all by itself. Safer.
Hi all .. we are 4 Kiwis on the Madrid and can absolutely confirm that Los Huertos albergue is a gem that should not be missed. New (ish?) Super Clean, wifi and extras ! And Ursula is an angel. The bar opens at 6pm is great plus we got supplies from vege and bread vans around 1130. A...
We are 4 Kiwis walking next month and also have struggled to get that part of the Camino pre booked. Have tried several times and ways to contact Hostal Avanto but no reply.
Or try Compeed anti- friction sticks...looks like a deodorant stick. Apply before walking to any suspect or potential blister spot. Brilliant.
If toes are the problem try Creepers toe Sox from NZ. Merino and super comfortable. Wash b4 use butvthat applies to all socks.
Have been looking at going from Oviedo to Madrid and same deal with ALSA i.e. fare to Airport is DOUBLE that to any of the other stops in Bordeaux. Not sure if it's a airport imposed surcharge or do they just know that have a captive audience so it's supply and demand ??
Hi Tom... as a pom you may be in to tea so have you tried Rooibos tea ? Has strong anti inflationary properties.
I was finding increasing stiffness in fingers etc and started drinking 2 4 cups a day (no milk). After about 6 weeks I started realising everything just felt more agile. I use a Tea...
We are walking Madrid to Oviedo next year but need to get back so just cheekily asking what bus company you are using to get Madrid to Oviedo.... have a great walk .. Primitivo is an option for an extension !!
