    Rain gear...

You shouldn't have problems getting ahold of the Altus, I'm in China, bought one from a Spanish (?) website and had it shipped to my friends in Paris. I can't remember which website, but it was one someone had posted a link to in this forum. I believe they shipped worldwide.

Water bottle or hydration pouch ('camel back')?

How often are you supposed to wash / rinse camelbacks? I was planning on using one.

Blister Prevention Gear Shopping in Paris

Anyone know where a good place to pick up blister tape and that kind of stuff in Paris? I might have to pick up a hiking hat and a pair of pants that zip off into shorts too.

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

Not too worried about that, my Vibrams are lighter than my Brierly guidebook! Haha.

    An Alcohol-Free Camino?

The wine fountain is often broken! Oh no, I'm really looking forward to it.

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

Thanks. Now I'm studying up on how to tape up my feet. Anyone know if alternating between shoes (1 pair 1 day, next pair the next) is a good way to eliminate blisters, as different parts of the foot would be being rubbed? Just a thought.

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

I finally settled on some Goretex Merrells are primary shoes, and the Vibram FiveFingers as backup/alternate.

    Another Backpack recommendation request

I just picked up an ultralight Osprey 44L, I haven't loaded it up yet, but I think it's going to suit my needs just fine.

    medical insurance

Be nice guys, many Americans simply can't afford insurance, it's not something they naturally "have" like other fortunate countries in Europe & Canada, so traveling without it probably doesn't seem to strange. I wouldn't recommend it, but I'm not here to judge people on their choices. I'm...

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

All this thinking about shoes is driving me a little batty. I wish I was back home where I could just go to a proper store and try things on. *sigh*

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

Lynne, Thanks for the links. I should be able to order Keen here in China then. I'd been considering these Merrell Goretex shoes and taping up my feet.. does anyone have any experience with anything similar? http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_det ... l?cm_cat=0

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

Well now I'm considering using the Vibrams as a backup. My gf made a good point - though the Vibrams seem sturdy enough for the trail / walking, she's not sure how they'd hold up with the added weight of a backpack in terms of support. Most of the shoes are worn by trail runners, who're of...

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

I've found some good reviews from long-distance trail-runners that seem to suggest that they'd be ok. I guess I'll find out though won't I? I've considered taking some hiking sandals as backup, but I haven't been able to find any on Taobao, which, because of my location, is where I have to do...

I hope that some people who are doing the Camino in March / April do some live updates. I'd love to hear people updating from that time.

    DSLR-camera on the camino

Yeah it's a tough call. I don't really want to spend the extra money to buy a 2nd camera, also I'm doing quite a bit of travelling after the Camino for which I'd like to have the camera. I'll probably end up bringing it.

    Walking in May 2010

I don't suppose there will be maps of these one can get ahead of time? There will be hopefully feedback on this forum from people who complete in March / April, before I go I suppose. Really looking forward to it, despite any possible hardships anyways, that's part of the fun, isn't it?
