Just got an email about today being last day of a seat sale for Vueling in Spain.
For anyone wanting to go to, say, Barcelona, after arriving in Santiago, this might be useful.
Buen camino...
A local (central Portuguese) news source reported recently on the newly marked routes to Fatima from 1/ Serta 2/Tomar and 3/ Abrantes (east of Vila Nova da Barquinha on the Tejo/Tagus).
Here's a link to the brochure, with map and elevation details, that they produced. It is in 4 languages...
Just noticed as I walked around the neighbourhood...looks like a few peregrinos have stayed here (and liked it), but not on Google Maps as yet. Looks nice--and a couple of cafés and a small grocery store within 100 meters/yards.
In the north side of town (Moita do Norte), north of the tracks...
According to a Spanish commentator, this isn't exactly up to date, but it's the Renfe website network map as currently posted. And apparently very difficult to find on their website.
Some may find it useful.
Website link for pdf (clearer, and expandable)...
I just happened to come across this map, when looking at a local bus schedule.
Peregrinos may find it useful, in terms of looking for a schedule for a particular area--which bus service covers it?
Bom caminho!
Today, there was a story in the middle-Tejo local news, about the coming completion of a new municipal albergue about 20 km north of Tomar in Areias. The story confused me at first, because the bigger municipality of which Areias is a part, is Ferreira de Zezere, which is east of the...
This morning at about 8:30, I was out in our back garden (central Portugal) where I saw, down the hill, the first of the day's peregrinos come striding up from Golega. Just at the same time, I noticed one of our several bread vans come peeling around the corner just behind him and park, honking...
Well, it seems there is another one-day strike coming on Wednesday, 31st with a bit of spill-over on the 30th May and June 1 (just when we are arriving, lucky us.)
This time, they seem not to have put the notices on the English-language part of the website, so here it is, with the Portuguese...
News about this app, developed to help outdoorspeople pack, was on one of our local news sites today.
I thought all of you packing for your caminos might find it useful:
"It’s all these [packing] mishaps that inspired Burk and two friends, Mack Carson and Tony Mamo, to create an app aimed at...
Just an alert that early April seems to be seeing strike action on the railway in Portugal for the next while...this may affect peregrinos!

...but the days are gorgeous, right about now. Almond trees and magnolias starting to bloom in central Portugal. Daytime temperatures about 13-15 C.
Not many peregrinos, but a few hardy souls walking through Barquinha.
Bom caminho, peregrinos!
"Nine municipalities in the north of the country, [plus] Lionesa – Associação de Arte, Cultura e Turismo, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the North (DRCN) and Turismo Porto e Norte de Portugal (TPNP) will apply for community funds – POCTEP, INTERREG and Portugal 2030 –, the Caminho da...
If you're spending any time in Lisbon as part of prepping for, or winding down from, the Portuguese Caminho, and you go out to Sintra to see the palaces, you can actually take an old open-sided tram from central Sintra down to the beach north of Cascais!
We stumbled upon this in a visit to...
The regular overnight trains, Lisbon <> Madrid, co-run by CP and Renfe, has been cancelled since the epidemic started.
For the last year or so, travellers have been able to move between the two by train, but in a bit more complicated fashion--any early morning train Lisbon > Entroncamento...
Rough translation of a nice little story, with a lovely graphic to accompany it (from our local Portuguese online news):
"The Municipality of Sardoal was invited to participate in a worldwide initiative to create flower carpets on the occasion of the Holy Jacobean Year in Santiago de...
Following on the heels of the short closure of the Templar's castle in Tomar--a magnificent sight--is more significant lack of availability as they start a large renovation of the site...
I know it's on many peregrinos'/peregrinas' "to see" list on the Portuguese Caminho Central.
Translation...
As recent posts have described, the heat in the Lisbon/Santarém section of the central Portuguese Caminho is pretty brutal these days.
Vila Nova da Barquinha, our "hometown" in Portugal, is between Golega and Tomar, and for many of the walkers of this caminho, about Day 5 and the almost-last...
This is a pleasant trip that stops in Valença, not Valencia, and drops you at Porto Campagna station, where it is possible to transfer to intercity buses as well as into the Portuguese (CP) rail system across the country...
I'm not quite sure if this is the best place for this warning, but it sounds as if it will apply for much of Spain and Portugal--other than the extreme north/northwest.
The second map here is projecting temperatures this Sunday. I know we have a local warning, in our area of central Portugal...
Not sure if this option has been explored lately, but Correos--the Spanish post office--is advertising their bike transport service...
