Chrissy - I plan to do the VDP/Sanabres in May 2025 starting in Salamanca, so I am following your posts with much interest. Is there a reason you didn't start in Salamanca? How was the train from Madrid to Salamanca- did you have any issues? Your days seem rather short - did you plan it that...
I too am looking for transport from SDC to Madrid in October. Staying a few days in Madrid before flying back to USA. Trains - right now Renfe - is only posting schedule to 30 Sept, anticipate fare from 80 to 100 euros, taxi to train station, then metro to Madrid hotel (a few euros). Yes it...
Does the CDN have any special certificates or stamps along the way?
The Frances has the midway point certificate in Sahagun.
The Portuguese has the Pedronia in Padron.
Finisterre and Muxia, each have their own certificates.
I did the Spiritual Route in May 2022. Please note other than the Monastery (breakfast was coffee and crackers) and the Albergue in Armenteira there are no other accommodations. I saw some pilgrims call a taxi to take them back to Combarro for lodging, then return the next morning to...
I am doing the Norte from San Sebastian in August. I appreciate all the information and guidance regarding alternative routes. Having done the Frances and Portuguese without GPS or apps, this will test me both mentally and physically. Looking at downloading the apps this week.
I have to agree with the majority above who disliked the movie. I have completed the Camino Frances and the Portuguese Coastal, and could not follow what path or "Way" this movie was on. I didn't mind the guide was a Bishop, but he was no guide or knowledgeable about the Camino- there was no...
I always buy Euros prior. Airport exchange rates are not good and machines unreliable. Initial expenses when you arrive - taxi, metro, snack. I track exchange rates 6 months out - using websites ceifx.com and travelex.com - next day delivery if you purchase at least $1000. If I'm on the...
On my first Camino Frances, I took the Valcarlos route in late August 2019. Be prepared! There are no services from SJDP to Valcarlos, or Valcarlos to Roncevalles. After Valcarlos it is mostly off road in the forest through the woods and narrow paths. I did not see any other pilgrims for 2...
I used my Keen Targhee mid boots for both the CF and recent CP Coastal. IMHO Boots are not needed for CP Coastal and/or the Spiritual. The only place that is rocky is going to Armenteria.
I just came back from walking the Variant - once you leave Combarro there is nothing until you get to Armenteira. There are only two places to stay in Armenteira - the Monastery or the Albergue. I know several pilgrims who walked to Armenteira - then called a cab to take them back to Combarro...
I just got back from walking Portuguese Coastal and Littoral, with the Espiritual. As this was my second Camino, I thought I knew what to look for but got "lost" several times. If it wasn't for a group of 5 Spanish "Angels" I would still be walking on the bridge to no where. Yes, I had the...
For 3 years I planned to end the Portuguese Camino on 3 June so that I could be in Santiago for Pentacost weekend hoping to see the Botafumeiro swing at least once. I was not disappointed. I saw it on both Saturday and Sundays noon masses. Brilliant and very emotional.
Can anyone in Portugal confirm that there is no longer a requirement for travelers from the US to complete the Passenger Locator Form? My understanding is that the government removed this requirement in April.
