    Plantar Fasciitis

I had it for a year. Rolling my foot on a firm rubber ball several times a day to massage really helped. I still do it. Specialist insoles for shoes also really help. Good luck.

Listening to Music/Audiobooks/Podcasts while making the pilgrimage?

No earbuds. No music. No books or podcasts. Just be in the moment and listen. Listen. Listen to the bird song, the wind, the rustle of the trees, the voices of other pilgrims. Listen to the peace, silence. Listen to your own thoughts. That’s how I have walked the Camino Frances twice. It’s...

Advice for New Peregrino Starting in May

Each time I have walked I always take a poncho with sleeves that also is made to fit over your backpack. Perfect cover. No flapping in the wind or wet arms. Rolls up small. Be sure to take flip flops or open trecking sandals to ‘air your feet’ in the evening. Enjoy! Buen Camino.

Top Tips starting from St JeanPied de Port

Make sure you book into Orisson for a memorable experience and great beginning to your walk.

Sleeping bag needed if staying in hotels rather than alberques?

The first time I walked the Camino I ended up posting my sleeping bag back home to lighten the load as I stayed in hotels and Casa rurals after Orisson. The second time I bought a very light fleece type bag which folded very small for Orisson and just in case. Buen Camino.

    Poncho

Which ever you get make sure it has sleeves and a ‘hump’ so it goes over you and your rucksack. Then you can cope with wind and rain and no flapping or wet arms. Buen Camino

What do you do when you cannot walk anymore?

About four years ago I set off to walk the Camino Frances alone carrying my stuff aged 65years. A one way ticket so I could take as long as it takes. After five weeks of joyous walking I developed really painful Achilles tendinitis and realised I had to stop or be left with serious long term...

    Stress with finding accommodation

Booking.Com can be useful even in small places and does include some Alburgues. Also when I walked it I used google translate to work out a few sentences saying my name, I only speak a little Spanish and I am English, what I want to book and when and quite often they would start speaking...

A plea to all women on the Camino Frances: ‘Take your toilet tissues with you’!

Another good option but watch where the panty liners get deposited. Probably more comfortable not to bother with them.

What suggestions would you make to improve the camino journey?

Even better use an old plastic bag ( screws up tiny into your bag after use great for airing bare feet so stones and dirt don’t stick to them ) and watch out for perching points on outcrops of rocks or the bank of a ditch.

A plea to all women on the Camino Frances: ‘Take your toilet tissues with you’!

I’m not sure. Maybe if you try the outdoor shop close to the pilgrim office. They might have something similar. Sadly the white splotches are definitely tissue. Petals would be beautiful and also not stay around for months.

A plea to all women on the Camino Frances: ‘Take your toilet tissues with you’!

I am currently walking the Camino for the second time from SJPP and just stopped in Los Arcos for the night. I last walked it in 2015. It’s beautiful, glorious but marred by the trail of toilet tissues along the paths and in the bushes. I am shocked and disheartened to see such a terrible...

    Start in the rain

Hi there. We are currently walking the Camino. We crossed the Pyrenees. Sunday morning to Orisson then over to Roncevalles Monday. We were blessed with beautiful weather. The next day Tuesday 19th Sept it poured with rain all day and pilgrims said they were advised not to go over the top. My...

    Start in the rain

Thank you. I’m hoping there won’t be any snow this time! Maybe a very worn track from all the previous Peregrinos. 👍😀🤞🙏

    Start in the rain

We start from St Jean on Sunday. When I walked the Camino in late March 2015 the Napoleon route was open but when we got to the top it was bright sunshine and glaring white snow. So we just stepped into other pilgrims footsteps. My question now is if there is no snow steps to follow are there...
