    Pack too heavy

As others have said, if your friend is going all the way to Santiago, send via correos to Ivar. If he is stopping before Santiago, he possibly can ship via Correos to the nearest post office of his final camino destination if it's less that 15 days away. They will hold it up to 15 days. Keep in...

    Camino Devil Dog Deterrent

I intuitively used this approach for years and it worked great… until it didn’t. Just recently tried this and had the dog run around and smell me as usuall and then it bit me in the calf. Yikes! Maybe it was the jamon I smeared all over my legs. 😂

Bad experience with Orange International Travel phone plans

I had difficulty and had to try three different cards before it worked.

    COVID My Camino Covid experience

My husband tested positive the day after we returned home from the Norte. We both wore masks on the plane. I tested positive two weeks later after spending that time taking care of my husband (both wearing masks). He was moderately ill for three days but it took weeks for him to recover...

    Help finding missing luggage (Correos)

We had a few problems with Correos Paq Mocila this fall on the Norte. They delivered my bag to a different place without telling me of the change. Another time, my bag took a big adventure and I didn’t receive it until late. Both times, because of the airtags I put in our bags, I was able to...

Last night I learned I snore...

I’m married to a snorer. In the early days of his waking me up, I would gently nudge him with little or no success. Then, after a while the sleep deprivation and anxiety started to build. When I would wake up to the sounds of a loud, sputtering chainsaw, I gave him a pretty big shove and yelled...

A quick thank you to Correos.

I’m glad it went well for you. We just walked from Irún to Bilbao using PAQ Mocila. It started off grand. But the last few days, they dropped our bags off at the wrong locations without communicating. Thank god for airtags! And thank god for local spaniards who helped us sort things out each...

Bad experience with Orange International Travel phone plans

My husband and I just used orange esims this month on the norte with great results. Sorry it didn’t work out for you.

    Language difficulties.

Disclaimer: the following is not an opinion about whether or not spaniards should be speaking english. I have traveled to spain six times now and during four of those visits, I’ve volunteered at Vaughantown, which is a week-long english immersion program for Spanish-speaking people. I’ve learned...

    Portable Charger

I might’ve missed it on the website-do you need a converter or just an adapter for this charger when traveling in Europe?

    Fantastic albergue near casa fernandes

I stayed at Casa Fernanda September 2021. It was lovely. I messaged in advance and didn't hear back. I called her directly instead. It took several tries, but I eventually reached her and made a reservation for me and my husband in their one private room with a private bathroom. Casa Fernanda's...

Boots or Hokas for the Central Route

I live in Hoka Bondis after learning about them here on the forum. I’ve been trying out some Hoka Stinson 6 ATRs for a Portugues Coastal this fall. Walked Central two years ago. I love the Stinson for trekking. The cushiest hiking shoe ever! I feel pretty stable in it. My only complaint, and...

Do Spaniards srsly eat this much tuna?

One of my favorite parts of being in Spain is the tuna. Not just on the camino, but everywhere. I especially love ventresca tuna. Unfortunately, Americans are not big fans of this fatty section of a tuna so it’s difficult to find here. But I have found a place in Westport Washington that cans...

    Condor Airline?

😂 Basically the other half of my flight TO Seattle. How could it be such a drastically different experience? Everything that could be wrong was. Well, the plane stayed in the air and the landing was ok. So there’s that. 😂 😂 😂

    Condor Airline?

Flew Condor from Frankfurt to Seattle last fall. The WORST airline I’ve flown on in quite some time, possibly ever. Flight staff was rude. Services were minimal. The plane was really old. Audio was broken in one seat and video broken in the one I switched to. Seat hardware literally broken and...

    Language barrier

Part of traveling to Spain for me is volunteering at Vaughantown, an English immersion program for Spaniards working on their conversational english. I’ve been told by many of them over the years that conversational english is not really taught in school. The focus is on reading and writing...

    Trekking poles

Some of us actually DO use poles to walk in our daily life. 😆 I walk between 8 and 10 miles a day with a week foot due to surgery and back problems. I’ve gotten over the odd looks I get walking through town and enjoy feeling more stable with the added benefit of improved upper-body strength. I...

    Osteoarthritis

Thanks to all for this thread. After finishing the CP last September, I had bunion+ surgery that went wrong. Trying to limp my way through this summer with a trip to Europe in 4 weeks, with a plan for corrective surgery in October. I honestly didn’t know how I was going to manage all the...

    Hiking poles on planes USA

I’m curious about this. I bought inexpensive poles in Porto and left them in Madrid. It seems like if everyone buys and leaves poles, there would eventually be whole lot of poles in Spain! 😂 I think they should have a place to drop off and adopt poles at all the airports in Spain. Is this a thing?

    Casa Fernanda question

In case you don’t already know, Fernanda has one private room for couples that even includes its own bathroom with shower. We stayed in that room and it was lovely. Just ask if it’s available when you reserve. Enjoy!
