I am planning a walk starting in A Guarda and following the Portugues Coastal but getting to A Guarda does not look easy.
I will be flying out from the UK which gives me options of flying into Santiago or Porto (both of which offer frequent flights) or into Vigo which is geographically closer...
Only recently downloaded the Wise Pilgrim app (iPhone) and it’s very, very helpful.
The one frustration I have is that the “Recent Comments” do not always include the name of the restaurant/bar/coffee stop described. Where one might say “Albergue Buenavista is wonderful” “Another might say...
Gronze describes this stage as follows:
"Etapa de escaso interés paisajístico y cercana a carreteras de tráfico intenso; en el aire se barrunta la presencia de una gran ciudad, aunque en algún tramo aún nos sorprende el silencio de un mundo en calma."
I think this translates as "it's a bit...
Trying to plan my journey from Bilbao airport to Pamplona.
I thought it was simply a case of jump on the bus at the airport into the city centre (20 mins on route A3247) and then swap onto a bus to Pamplona (2 hours). Hopefully with the swap taking place in the same bus station ("Bilbao...
Can anyone give me some simple clarification on the Via de la Plata option?
It looks like after Granja de Moreruela I can swing left towards Oursense (and onto SdC) or head north to join the Frances at Astorga.
Are these both considered to be parts of the Via de la Plata? Or do they have...
I think I am almost definitely decided on the Frances. Almost probably sure. And starting in Pamplona without a great desire to walk the last 100k into SdC
I have flexibility on when I do it and was thinking of starting in September and walking for about 4 weeks.
On the one hand I know that...
After excellent advice from the forum on where to walk next, I have decided it will be the Camino Frances.
I will walk for 4 weeks (ish) in September so, where do I begin?
My initial thoughts........
1. I am nearing 70 and this will be my second Camino. I am not a strong walker (but...
As an albergue novice I would really appreciate some advice on what to expect and how to behave when staying in an albergue. For example.......
- should I expect a communal meal? What happens when you want to eat out at a local bar or restaurant?
- is it expected or simply appreciated if you...
I walked the Portugués last year (Variante Espiritual) and will walk it again this year. I have fallen in love with the Camino and I am now thinking that I could fit in another walk of 3 to 4 weeks in September or October of this year.
So where next? I would greatly value suggestions and...
I can find plenty of pictures of the (infamous) yellow boot and blue boot but cannot pinpoint where they are.
I suspect I might have walked right past them last year.
Don't want to miss them again!
Can any one recommend a place for a good massage in Santiago? I am not a massage expert but know that I would prefer something more akin to a sports massage than hot stones and soft music. I would like to find someone who can help to remove (some of) the aches and pains of the camino.
More stress in the Helado household where Mrs H has decided that last year’s floppy brimmed walking hat is simply no longer “de rigor” and must be replaced. The old one has a brim of approximately 7cm/3 inches and the new one must be wider than that and allow for being rolled up and stuffed...
This year I'll be staring in Ponte de Lima so after a short while I will be passing into Spain.
I like the idea of using Correos for bag transport but I think they only operate in Spain (which would be understandable).
If that's the case should I use another carrier to move the bags in Portugal...
I am a meticulous planner. Some would say obsessive. I planned out my next Camino several months ago and placed each stage carefully onto the master spreadsheet. Distances, places to stay, where to stop for lunch. What could go wrong?
To my astonishment it would seem that I have forgotten...
Anyone help me with information on travelling from Porto airport to a Camino start-point. I want to get to Ponte de Lima but any general points about the airport transport options would be very helpful and any advice on getting to Ponte de Lima would be a wonderful bonus!
It seems to me that...
Mrs Helado is insistent that what she needs for her next Camino is a pair of wide-fit, Gore-tex, trail shoes.
Mrs Helado is very specific.
Hours spent googling have so far brought no joy.
Any ideas?
Anyone help me with recommendations of places to stay in Pontevedra? It s such a beautiful town that we do not want to miss staying there, preferably in the old town. Mrs Helado snores (poor me) and I have reached the age where bathroom visits are obligatory during the night (poor me) so a...
Last year was our first Camino from Vigo to Santiago via the Variante. We had the most wonderful experience and as a direct result of that we are planning to return next year. We are planning to follow the same route (that's how much we loved it) but to start further south - perhaps in A...
The last 100k of the Portugués via the Variante Espiritual was our first Camino and we loved it. Now we want to go back and walk some more. Any thoughts on where we might walk next would be very gratefully received. What we particularly liked about the Variante was.....
- it was quiet
- it...
