Brought back so many memories for me. It is indeed a wonderful route to walk, as you say with lovely varied scenery and pretty towns.
Where did you stay in Estany?
Tamsin, I am so sorry to hear that you had such a hard dangerous day on Wed. When I walked in mid May, the weather was perfect for hiking - cool first thing then warm but not too warm in the early afternoon. That makes for a truly different day.
I suppose the moral of your story, is that Spain...
Thanks for reminding me - the day from Sant Esteve where I spent a night, to L'Esquirol, was probably my best day of the walk. The way up from L'hostelets d'enBas was absolutely lovely, then the pastures and views above were glorious.
I walked from Llanca to Montserrat in 2016 and loved the route. Here is my write up with suggestions for lodgings and how to split long stages.

If you are going to Montserrat, you might pass through Figueres. The large Gothic church there was heavily bombed during the civil war by the nationalists, and then rebuilt afterwards using the slave labour of the prisoners of war. I decided against going inside once I had seen the plaque.
You bring back happy memories of that walk!
I walked in May 2016 and the flowers were superb. Coming out of La Vall de Santa Creu, I was pleased to find both the deep blue and brick red forms of Anagallis arvensis - the scarlet pimpernel - growing within less than a meter of each other. Then...
Sorry, I assumed you lived in Leeds as that is what you have under your avatar! Wetherby is NOT Leeds!
I'm in Sheffield this weekend, looking out over the wet landscape, wishing I was in Spain..... OH is walking the coast2coast this week - he'll be doing the Nine Standards about now, if he...
The hotel I stayed in at Santa Maria d'Olo is no longer on booking.com. That stretch is bad enough for accommodation, so the lack of somewhere at Santa Maria is a disaster.
No. It is an expensive walk, but, that said, NOTHING like as expensive as accommodation walking in the UK.
There are a few private hostals in towns like Vic and Girona, the Monserrat abbey has a hostal and I think there is one in Manressa as well. And a youth hostel near Sant Esteve d'en bas but...
I did the walk in May 2016 and wrote a report on what was available then. You can find it here: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/reporting-back-from-the-cami-st-jaume-from-llan%C3%A7%C3%A0-to-montserrat.41184/
It's not a very long walk, and not strenuous either. You can PM me if...
My experience at the farm gate was exactly the same as yours. There was one of those posts just up the road - about 4 or 5 metres - but nothing on the farm gate. That was where I was so glad to have had Laurie's wikiloc trail. Felt odd walking through the farm yard, but the sign on the far gate...
Hi Ellen. I walked solo from Llança to Montserrat in May 2016 and had a wonderful time. I wrote up my notes afterwards which you can find here:
https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/reporting-back-from-the-cami-st-jaume-from-llan%C3%A7%C3%A0-to-montserrat.41184/
Hope it helps! Any...
It's a lovely walk. I walked last May, and the scenery, especially the flowers were superb. Only downside was the total lack of fellow pilgrims, but I was expecting that, so came prepared.
I avoided Manresa completely, by continuing south rather than turning off to the city. The path is...
Hi Steve. I'm probably too late to influence your decision, but....
Why not walk what Laurie called the Cami Sant Jaume in Catalonya, from the med coast just before the French border, to Montserrat...
Hi Dave, I walked the Cami in May this year. Beautiful walk then, with wonderful wild flowers.
I totally agree that the signing in patchy. Some stretches it is brilliantly well marked, then the next section - where have all the arrows gone? There's even the odd blue sign in a misleading place...
I knew this would happen - life got busy and I got sidetracked! Couple more thoughts on the route.
Manresa. Laurie mentions that she thought two of the towns that she passed through were well worth a longer visit and Manresa was not one of them. My husband and I drove through the southern...
The 'official' guide to the Cami St. Jaume can be found here: http://www.camidesantjaume.cat/descargas/guia_port_selva-jonquera-montserrat_ESP.pdf
Some of the stages are quite long. Laurie mentions this in her account of her walk, (see...
LT, in her account of her walk, Laurie mentions that you found the climb up to Montserrat one of the hardest you had ever done. Can you recall which way you went? Thankfully, I took the gentle route!
