All the gear but no idea

Speaking as an Americana, it's my opinion that the Camino starts at your own front door.

    Which hat looks better?

If the weather is hot and sunny, B will keep you cooler. A looks cooler, of course, but who cares?

Best One Day Walk on Any Camino?

Lovely photos, companyes! My favorite day was the one where I saw a shepherd and his dog watching a field of sheep, near Pontos, Catalunya. Also here are some Camino signs I particularly enjoyed.

Post your favorite flower photo(s) taken on Camino(part 2)

The second I know as red-hot-poker. The first is a lovely mystery.

    Pilgrim "customs"?

I totally agree with this. When I am home, I'm home. As soon as I step out my door, my journey - to wherever - begins.

Weird & wacky vending machine finds

Not too long ago I saw a machine in an airport selling underpants and undershirts and socks. Maybe that was Boston? In my youth, in Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA, there were vending machines for half - gallons of milk on the porch of the insurance company. There were no late night shops in...

Hiking Quotes - just for fun.

My employment has been erratic anyway. If I set out on foot to go and go and never come home, I would lose my cats, my beloved house, my good husband, my gardens, my friends and neighbors and family. And my job. I would learn and grow and deepen and all that, yes, but I am doing that anyway. My...

Hiking Quotes - just for fun.

"Returning home is the most difficult part of long-distance hiking; You have grown outside the puzzle and your piece no longer fits." - Cindy Ross ... Oh, I wish I were brave enough to put this to the test! But what would I lose, also?

Women not as strong as men.

Women frequently have more stamina than men. I have been through a few somewhat tough things, but I hold onto the knowledge that it *will* end, and I can stick it out.

Do ladies pee in the woods? I think we know the answer.

I have done 98.6 % of my outdoor peeing in the Eastern Woodlands of New England, where the underbrush of pretty thick. Spanish underbrush is harder to find, so a gadget could be very helpful, but I haven't tried one yet.

Do ladies pee in the woods? I think we know the answer.

I much prefer the woods to indoors, weather and neighborhood permitting. The ambience is usually quite lovely. At a certain deserted villa on the road from Girona to Bonmatí, I felt like I was in Narnia!

what is going on? why are so many people paying a fortune to follow one of the many routes to Santiago?

I walked my mini Cami Sant Jaume for the romance of it. I'm not catholic, not spiritual, not an art historian, not a Spainophile or oenophile or gourmet. My photos reveal my interests: ancient bridges, tilework, plants, water fountains, small architectural details. I walked 50 miles in 5 days...

    Sweet Treats

Brighton, New Brighton, and on Staten Island in New York Harbor, there is West New Brighton! Wheee! Another roadside treat is wild figs. Not the farmed ones, the escaped ones. The wild pomegranates were too tart for me. Hedge almonds, wild blackberries, and ice cream when I got into town...

    Knitting & The Camino

I knit on my sock, on a size 000 dpn. It passed inspection in Boston, Frankfurt, and Barcelona, but not Istanbul. I bought a new one when I got home. I don't usually knit while walking, but once in a while.

    Sweet Treats

    All my winkies disappeared.

    Sweet Treats

I am calm. Only wanting to clarify. And I am not either touchy! And thank you for clarifying, too! New Jersey has a bad reputation derived from two vast highways lined with industry that run the length of it, and that corridor is indeed very ugly. The northwest and southeast corners are mostly...

    Sweet Treats

The USA New Jersey is not a copy of Jersey, it is a beautiful state named after the British island. New York is nothing like York, New Britain is nothing like Britain, and New South Wales is nothing like south Wales. The names honor and remember where the original European settlers/invaders came...

Thoughts? - people getting a compostela without walking the final 100k

As to the original question for years ago: liars will get what they deserve, sooner or later.

Courtesy to pilgrims for whom English is not their first language.

As an American, I totally agree with these explanations.
