I first walked the Camino Frances in the spring of 2016. I had another opportunity to take a break from work in the autumn of 2017 and return to Spain to walk a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela again.
In considering the route, I realized that for the first time, there was a good bit of...
The shell on my backpack is from that shop (about 12-14 cm across), one of my favorite souvenirs. Subtle, but when noticed, always gets a comment. (And I have had many offers to buy it.) In Ayegui, near the wine fountain at the Bodegas Irache winery.
I have used both Follow the Camino and Camino Ways in the past. There is a strong bias on this forum towards staying in albergues and if using private accommodation, doing all the booking yourself. I disagree with this bias and agree completely with the comment from @Mamarich:
I just returned...
I find it amusing that many seem to anguish about getting adequate stamps. It is so easy to get stamps, and many are creative or artistic. I liked the stamps from the beginning of my first Camino Frances, and averaged 3 or 4 per day before Sarria, 6 or 7 a day after from churches, bars...
Until the pandemic, I spent the last eight winters in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from Christmas to early February where I practice yoga daily, work part-time (I am a computer system admin), and enjoy the food and the culture. A friend gave me a little stone to carry with me as a reminder to stay...
I have been drawn to the Via de la Plata/Sanabres and that was planned for last spring. The Frances holds so many good memories, I am also attracted to return for the third time, but perhaps finish over the Invierno.
Buen Camino!

I loved the smell of the eucalyptus trees in the forests of Galicia. Generally I loved the forests in Galicia, and the smell of the eucalyptus and the beauty of those old, tall trees.
Buen Camino!

I have used a tour company twice who booked hotels for me along the Camino Frances. I agree that good communication is key, and when I was trying to figure out which company to use for my first Camino, the initial e-mail communications allowed me to very quickly narrow the search to two...
Hi, I have walked the Camino Frances twice from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela, once spring 2016 and again autumn 2017. The route does get busier starting at Sarria. I am considering walking the Camino de la Plata/Camino Sanabres starting at Seville next year. And in my...
Congratulations on completing your first Camino.
I felt the same way when I first reached the cathedral in Santiago, empty and almost sad. I contemplated why I was not more elated at reaching Santiago as I was walking on to Finisterre the next day. This quote I have posted before came to mind...
Your words are exactly what I felt...a calling to return as if there was unfinished business and that the Camino was not done with me and there is more to be learned on the Camino. It does not sound strange to me at all. I am so looking forward to my Otono on El Camino.
Buen Camino!

I have not felt lost in any way after the Camino Frances & Camino Finisterre. I did miss the simplicity of the life, and I did miss the deep camaraderie as well as the support of the people along the way. My friends and work colleagues tell me that the Camino did change me in subtle, but very...
I love this quote, and have used it on the Camino Forum before. It really sums up my feelings about the Camino and why I was not as elated as many when I reached Santiago...reaching Santiago meant that much of the journey was over, and for me, the journey was more important than the destination...
