In my experience in Spain, when I've been asked the where are you from question, it is usually in the form of ¿de donde eres? to which I say, simply, Seattle, or cerca de Seattle. This avoids stumbling over my tongue with a longer, more general answer. It may not work for everyone, but it works...
And after the foregoing thread leaves you completely exhausted, just relax and order a Larios y Tonica (con Limón o Lima). The bartender knows the precise glass in which to serve it.
This may be helpful, Wicked.

Shishitos may be substituted. This is the cooking method I use.
My introduction to them was in Santiago after the camino at Cafe Bar Stella. My word, where I have I been! I consumed plates of them everyday after that for the 5 days I was there. I like the mystery element to them, as well. They are supposed to be mild but every now and then one of them...
We never know when we may pass this way again. I undertook the CF as my 75th birthday present to myself. Although I was in reasonably good shape from hiking in the Cascade Mountains and elsewhere, I purposely set out to take my time as this may be the only occasion I will have to experience the...
I echo Doug Fitz's sentiments about the joy of meeting fellow pilgrims in albergues and elsewhere. However, for the walking part of the experience, I prefer to be by myself. At my pace. My time of day. Stopping to watch clouds go by. Waiting for the cuckoos cry. Looking for trout in a stream...
I've mentioned this in an earlier thread, but I met a gentleman on the veranda in Orisson. We stumbled on the fact we were both Marines stationed in Quantico, Virginia. We hiked together off and on until Pamplona. He was 86, I was 75. When we were hiking together, we joked that we were probably...
You inspire me, Old Hillwalker. I did the CF in 2017 at age 75 and took 45 days as I was in no hurry. I have vacillated about whether and when to go back and do it again. Your stalwart example brings me closer to the return. Thank you for sharing your story.
In 2017 I did the entire Camino Frances. I was fortunate to have the time to do it all in one go. I was aware of the need to obtain at least 2 Sellos per day from Sarria to Santiago. I got 3 and sometimes 4. After all that distance from St. Jean Pied de Porte, I was determined not to be doubted...
I purchased two copies of John Brierley's Camino Frances guidebook before heading to Europe in spring, 2017. I kept one for daily use in my backpack; the other I left with my wife back home so she could see what my stops were along the way and vicariously walk along with me, and our wonderful...
I got a haircut in Carrion de los Condes. It was 8 Euros. I was happy. Shaving? Once every two to three days, usually in cold water. I hereby declare the cuckoos along the way were pleased. ;)
I understand many folks have a limited amount of time to dedicate to their pilgrimage and, therefore, must travel at a certain pace. I have the advantage of time. I think of the Camino—and by extension, Spain—as a friend I haven't been with in a long while and there's some catching up to do. I...
You've accomplished a great deal Damien. Your numbers 2, 3, and 4 resonate. Especially # 3 which may explain why I have travelled to Spain more than any other country beginning in 1970 and continuing to this day. My journal keeping on the Camino recounted each day as it unfolded, but also...
The Camino was a solo enterprise for me. Purposely. Had I a companion, I would have been sensitive to that person's rhythms. I wanted the ability to leave when I wished, stop where I wished, travel at the pace I wished. In essence, callous though it may seem, I wanted the freedom to compose and...
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough in my explanation, Don. The relationships are bank to bank and the nostro-vostro accounts exist to facilitate certain payments with customers of the bank in their respective countries. BNP was one of our oldest correspondent bank relationships with mutual accounts...
