Cafe con leche different this year?

The area around Andalusia has an inclination toward stronger coffee due to the Moorish influence.

    Bourbon and cigars

Cigars are easy. Bourbon will be available in larger cities but it’s not that popular here as locals tend to drink local. It’s not that easy to get French wine for example.

    Bourbon and cigars

Brandy was going to be my suggestion too to mix it up a bit. I met an Aussie who had brandy as his Camino vice and I have to say the couple I had with him were decent

Competition for the best hamburger in Spain

I’m really happy/alarmed to say Catalonia’s 3rd best burger is just across the road from my apartment in Barcelona. It’s the first place I’ve been where they make the buns, pickles, mayo and mustard all in house. Incredibly delicious.

A Camino "dry run" - what I learned from the Milford Track

The Great Walks are far harder in general than the Camino Frances. But it’s the day-after-day-after-day that gets you on the Camino. Things get stronger whilst others come out of nowhere. I think your gear shakedown was a great idea as was the mental prep. You know how the Camino is similar to...

How often do you take a break?

Lots of good advice here. I’m a pretty fit mid-50s and my personality has always been to ‘tackle the challenge’. Part of me really enjoyed that on my Camino but the downside was that I was very tired at the end of the day. I was also not eating enough In retrospect, and for my next Camino, I...

Those BRIGHT motion activated lights, or how to pee in 5 seconds

My watch has a ‘light mode’ which has come in very…uhh…handy…in certain albergues and cafes

Those BRIGHT motion activated lights, or how to pee in 5 seconds

I was explaining this to my wife via text whilst executing said windmill! She thought that was hysterical

    Just finished

I’m on the Camino Frances now and while not as arduous as the Primitivo the meseta is certainly not slowing down the wind and rain pushing through here. I was concerned for my hands at one point today 😬.

Who are you lighting a candle for?

My sister passed away just 4 days before my Camino. I’ve been lighting candles whenever I can in her memory.

    Charging electronic devices...

This is a very good point. If you use an old charger you’ve had for years it may not be up to the task. It’s one reason I upgraded to my uGreen 65w GaN charger. It has the juice to push multiple ports.

    Charging electronic devices...

Guarantee there’s zero difference with the converter. Good luck though 😂. We men folk can be stubborn.

    Charging electronic devices...

My assumption was that his concern was regarding the normal mobile devices 🤔. Now I’m curious as well.

    Charging electronic devices...

For those looking for high power and lighter weight look for GaN adapters. They allow for higher wattage in a smaller package. I have a 65 watt one with 3 ports that’s around the same size as a 20 watt traditional one

    Charging electronic devices...

Just let him know that Europeans charge their phones just fine 😂. And to further ease his mind if his main concern is the 110 vs 220 power thing is that euro adapters are designed for it so they’re safe and light!

    Family Guy, or not

    Sounds more like basic training

Solo walkers - what kinds of food do you buy at grocery stores?

Just had a really nice napolitana yesterday at my local little Catalan bakery and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Solo walkers - what kinds of food do you buy at grocery stores?

Stopping in to a fast food place in the bigger cities is a great way to procure some small packets of mayo

Solo walkers - what kinds of food do you buy at grocery stores?

I love that kind of flexible veganism. I respect those that stick to their guns but folks like you that step out and try the local foods are more relatable for me. I just can’t help myself but to try darn near anything.

That’s a great post Annie. The Albo tuna is my favorite one I’ve found in Spain so far. It’s yellowtail so it’s super high quality over skipjack. It’s not cheap (4€ a 3 pack in Barcelona) but delicious. I’m going to look for those peppers!
