Hi,
Same advice : bring your own supply for the duration of your camino.
I guess you know that, but for what it's worth : in France, a fair number of people have been destabilized by (slight?) changes in Levothyroxine formulation, describing secondary effects, raising claims, asking for damage...
Hi,
As I mentioned in the other thread you have opened :
In my understanding, it looks like the application (not the e-books), as put on the market in 2018, is no longer available nor updated : refer to the warning in yellow at the top of this page ...
Hi,
If you feel like hiking a little bit more, not too far from Barcelona, you might consider the "Priorat" little region.
With much legacy (monastery of Poblet, and others), nice mountain range...
Good luck.
Hi,
This poster in an Italian church, also adequate for Spain.
Asks you to avoid shorts, miniskirts, nude shoulders.
As asked by the other poster : don't forget to shut off your phone. God might speak to you when you are in church, but not by phone. Having your phone ringing during a mass is...
Hi,
The 30-euro coin is outside of the conventional 1-2-5-10 pattern. As would be a 15 $ note...
But a reality. Looks typically Spanish, e.g.
https://www.fnmt.es/en/coleccionista/emisiones-2014/30-euro-felipe-vi
The 30 Euro - Xacobeo 21-22 is announced in the "forthcoming releases" of the...
Hi,
Not sure about Spain, but in France, a "service" amount is included in the bill (through menu price or otherwise). This amount (generally 10 to 15%) is distributed to the staff, in addition to their wages.
i.e. a difference with the US practice. So tipping at 15-20% would be excessive...
Hi,
My French-issued Carte Bancaire is an international Visa (debit) card. Used in hotels anywhere, including Spain, without any comment from the receiver. Also used worldwide for purchasing from web sites (US, UK, Poland...)
In fact, in France, "Carte Bancaire" is :
- a generic name for...
On some other forums, an user is mocked by the regular members when "digging up" a thread several years after the last contribution.
Not very gracious... Apart from obvious reasons given above, I don't see why an "old" thread would be irrelevant per se.
In fact, one of the top French writers, Jean-Christophe Rufin, a member of "l'Académie Française", has written a book about his own experience on the Camino del Norte : "Immortelle randonnée".
Translated into English as "The Santiago pilgrimage: walking the Immortal Way".
A big literary...
By the way, the well-known pilgrim's menu is not so healthy. Repetitive chicken / French fries diet can be trying and I began to develop some discomfort in the long run. Exploit opportunities when more "mediterranean" food is available.
Hi Julie and Peter,
I did both, at 62 and 63. There is no comparison, the Le Puy route is way easier, with (much) shorter ups and downs.
Some may be steep and rocky (e.g. from Rochegude to Monistrol) and you will be better off with walking sticks.
The secret(?) is to manage short stages at...
Hi,
Yes, I'm more concerned by bunkbeds about to overturn when being climbed. Not infrequent.
When rails are missing, what about a makeshift rail with some lengths of your own clothline ? (I always bring some 10 m of (sturdy) 3 mm mountain cord, handy in many a case). Another "weighs nothing"...
Hello,
Thanks for your input.
My experience, in practice, is that the "Ian's secure shoelace knot" nevers fails. And you just pull one end to untie. Strongly recommended to all pilgrims.

Hello,
Some points to be taken into consideration for your project :
- Beyond 15 hosts, the rules change and your business will be considered as a hotel, with specific constraints https://www.service-public.fr/professionnels-entreprises/vosdroits/F31521
- Operating a kind of shuttle between...
Hi,
I didn't walk this route by myself. I read from this site http://www.chemin-stevenson.org/organiser-sa-randonnee/hebergement-et-restauration-et-services.html "Booking accommodation is strongly recommended. Some stages have only one or two small structures."
The potential problem is about strikes in SNCF. Part of their employees are fighting a new labor bill, with an impact on the traffic, including TGVs.
Check your train at this address http://www.sncf.com/fr/horaires-info-trafic
(and re-check later, situation may evolve).
Hello Birnbaumclara,
Some feedback about walking with a donkey, from an experience some 20 years ago. We rented donkeys from an agency which doesn't exist any longer and walked in the Mezenc/Gerbier de Joncs area in the Massif Central, with our kids (14, 12, 9 and 3) and two donkeys, from gite...
