    Have you used Aíralo?

Hi, I really liked Holafly. I guess in terms of value, it depends on what you’re looking for, but I had unlimited data for the period of time I purchased, and it also allowed me to use the holafly esim to make WiFi calls via my NZ (skinny) mobile connection. Super useful, fantastic mobile data...

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

This sounds like bliss, at least compared to walking into Santiago during “Semana Santa” earlier this year!

    Mileage tracker

You could just use the built in Apple fitness app. That will track your distance traveled in the day…. Walkmeter is another app that tracks distances, elevations etc. It keeps working when your phone goes to sleep.

    Oversaturation

This is such a great question to ponder, thank you so much for asking it! For me, whilst “the camino” (which ever path that might be) will get busier, and then maybe after a time, quieter again, I don’t think it will be possible to be saturated by the vicarious experience - the photos, videos...

Do Spaniards srsly eat this much tuna?

You’re so right…. @Tincatinker - being able to speak a little Spanish has made a massive difference to my experience on the camino, in lots of ways, some big and some small…. not the least of which is being able to ask for exactly what I want (or don’t want) to eat and drink. Where would I be...

Do Spaniards srsly eat this much tuna?

I’m not sure that what we get as pilgrims eating pilgrims menus reflects much of the local food culture in Spain- rather, I think it’s likely to be cheap nutritious food that pilgrims get in pilgrims menus, enabling those pilgrims that couldn’t otherwise be away a month or more and eat out for...

    Outraged

I’m really sorry to hear about this experience that you have had. Great advice from the previous responders to your post…. I’d be taking a day off or walking a short or long day if possible, in order to avoid these guys. It’s interesting how, no matter how many times it happens, this sort of...

    No hot water in Sahagun

Indeed…. Whilst certainly not ideal, it could be worse…. I’ve found that the occasional cold shower does me the world of good, but maybe that’s just me! Last time it happened to me I felt super lucky every time I had a warm shower for the whole next week!

Getting Compostela several days after arriving in Santiago - any problems?

I did it a couple of days after getting to Santiago- no problems!

    Payment on Booking .com

At least where I am in the world, as I understand it, your bank will generally get a more favourable rate than the company you are booking with / buying from, so I always choose the local currency and let my bank convert it. It has worked well!

    Donativos

I'm not an expert, but from my perspective, 20 euros seems like a great deal for a bed for a night in a decent albergue, plus dinner and breakfast. I'm not sure that its the fast track to making a good living. I'm guessing its something they're not in only for the money.... My experience from...

For coffee addicts that like to walk early

I'm a total caffeine addict, and generally haven't been a super early riser on the camino... Having said that the days where I had to walk 5-10km before I got to my first cafe con leche were lovely in their own way.... I think there was something about waiting (and maybe working) for the thing...

    Where do ( did ) you walk ( locally ) in 2022?

Alongside Otago harbour, then St Clair beach in Dunedin, New Zealand.

On the Camino: One Day at a Time, one Photo at a Time 4.0.

Walking into Merida, on the Via de la Plata, 17 April 2016. Flippin amazing day!

You CAN walk a virtual Camino in Google Earth!

This is genius... thanks @alexwalker for bumping this up! I've got a big wall map, and Efren's Vlogs, and will be out as often as I can to clock up the kilometers, marking on my map the equivalent distance walked on the Frances, checking it out on google Earth, and possibly even starting the day...

    A 'One Word' Why?

Yes - where is this course?

    A 'One Word' Why?

    Wine and Beer

Aside from recommending the 'cerveza con limon', which I think is a really refreshing and relatively easy to drink, I'd take @FrankieBallz advice - if you're walking long distance, and exerting yourself in a way you usually don't, its worth being wary of dehydration - water, occasional sugary...

When did you feel your camino began? Ended?

This is a really tricky question... I'm really not sure when my camino began, probably when I finally decided that I would walk it, months before leaving. As to when it ended, I'm not sure it has - it seems to seep though different aspects of life in an ongoing way, when I least expect it...

    After Camino

I have also battled with this struggle - I suspect that is why the Camino Forum is such a nice space on the internet - many of the people who populate these message boards (including me) are possibly looking for a way to maintain a connection with the Camino, for exactly the reasons you have...
