    Camino by Coach

Unfortunately for many it is. Or still simply just another souvenir. In it's current form it only has any true religious significance if you endow it with that.

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

My usual - and current - planning tools - the coffee mug being the most important part!

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

???? Ok, told you I’m new to this- when I open it this is what I saw! Edited to add: in the woods of Homer Simpson "duuuh!" I've just realised - I thought this was in Mapy, it's not! My humble apologies, told you I'm new to all this stuff..... 😣🤕. Thanks!!

    Picking an accommodation

You may also occasionally find an apartment on airbnb. I say occasionally because during the summer months in particular they often have minimum stay periods which obviously will not work for you. Plus of course it's a very popular area so many will already be booked out.

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

Sadly not, different route. I'll go back and edit this for future readers, basically I've found a couple however they don't follow what I understand (from a map) to be the Camino. Nor might I add mapy's tracks, which until now I have found ( over 350km) to be almost 100% accurate (allowing...

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

Thanks. Yes I have signed up as a premium member (14-day free trial), and was trying method two ie between the two points. Those are the examples I've given above - 'Trail doesn't exist'. I've also tried the first methodology and while they're occasionally there when somebody has uploaded them...

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

Thanks, I'll take a look at that.

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

Thanks. Ok, Hof - Nürnberg for example. If I start at the northern end of the train station I'm practically on the Jakobsweg. But rather than take me across the tracks and out the far side on the Jakobsweg it chooses some other trail, circling completely around Hof. It's probably a lovely...

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

Thanks, but unfortunately this is only good for the mainstream camino's in Spain and a handful of trails in Italy as far as I can see. I'm coming from a little further afield and whilst walking the Camino, certainly not on the ones that they list. Thanks anyway though! :)

    Wikiloc or alternative for planning

I'm currently trying to plan my Germany to Santiago route in a little more detail. Specifically what I want to do is create a linear route marked out in km (roughly 20km spacing) with the town's etc marked on it, much as you see in many of the guide books. Not a stages plan per se because that...

    The Pilgrim’s Guide to Etiquette

I'm like you, easily woken, instantly alert. So personally I carry a tiny keychain torch, put it in my hand with just enough light peeking out between my fingers to see. Kept under my pillow at night, easy to find, and minimises sleep disruption to others like us.

    The Pilgrim’s Guide to Etiquette

Effectively, it means 'to sum it up', or 'in short'. It's often used on social media when people sum up their thoughts on a complicated subject.

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

https://maps.app.goo.gl/7RABVyMENcVkBGXE8?g_st=ic Here! A Kiwi botanist believes it was likely planted in the early 1800‘s

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

You could just ask a local, they’re quite famous. I think the biggest one (mama tree) is behind the police station

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

This is a Pohutukawa flower, leaves are waxey and rounder, „Mainland pohutukawa grows to 20m high with up to a 35m wide crown“ (bottlebrushes are narrow, almost needle-like, nor do the trees grow as big - maybe 5m - much more spindly)

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

Nope, that’s a bottlebrush. We have those in NZ too, but they’re not jut costal. They resemble their namesake

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

@Silvermomma , if the Pohutukawa tree's are in bloom at the moment please, please post a picture or two! It's been 6 years since I've seen one..... 😢

How do you feel when you finish a camino?

Both times last year I felt ... empty. Not ready to finish. I just wanted to keep walking. Each day I'm in Santiago I find myself drawn back to the square and I just sit, my back against those old stones, and watch. Sooner or later I always seem to attract a kindred spirit and we sit quietly...

    Camino fatigue?

Yes, it's sad when you love something so much and then suddenly discover that you've lost the magic. It can happen for any number of reasons, and let's face it, your most recent experience was far from optimal. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's gone forever but clearly you definitely need a...

    The Pilgrim’s Guide to Etiquette

In my experience most hostels have similar rules although I must say that when I was managing a hostel they were somewhat more stringent than these. Bar the fish rule! Like you I have a love/ hate relationship with fish, and it's smell. Another smell that is all pervasive is curry. A Fijian...
