I’ll keep this short. For a 78 year old walking for the first time, I spent about $3500 to walk the Camino for two weeks staying in private rooms, eating well in the evenings, using baggage transfer and covering all transportation costs flying from the US and in country transfers. Gifts and...
I don’t know how I can make this any clearer, but I’ll try. I am not comparing Spain’s drinking water to Egypt. I am simply saying that people who have alimentary issues are better served by drinking bottled water while on the Camino. People spend a lot of resources planning and paying for their...
If you have never had a bout of amoebic dysentery than you are not aware of the lingering issues that typify the infection. Any change in drinking water can cause a problem for me even if the water is potable and the changes slight. There is a significant difference in the flora and fauna of...
I finished a Camino in early October and stayed in a variety of accommodations along the way. Although I never heard of anyone staying at these accommodations having an issue with the water, I never drank anything but bottled water. After a bout of dysentery in Egypt many years ago, my digestive...
I think the two stamps a day rule is only for those doing the 100km routes. All others need only one stamp a day at most. If you have taken an exceptionally long route as you have I don’t think you need fret about stamping except perhaps at lodgings.
On my sr one to last day. Lavacolla tomorrow than Santiago. Thanks for all the encouragement. I think it was instrumental in cementing my mindset. Burn Camino
Got your recommendation late and had already done most of the main route along the highway. It was a real chore but doable. Stopped in Ventas de Naron for the night. That was about all I could manage for the day. Thanks for your interest.
Finished my second day from Morgade to Portomarin. Except for the final 100 meters it was a joyful walk. Fortunately met such sweet folks and traded stories about our lives. Looking forward with a little trepidation about the climb out of Portomarin but it doesn’t look too onerous. I did manage...
Started my first Camino today, walking the 13km from Sarria to Morgade. I did a couple of side trips to see a church and a farm selling local cheese. I am 78 and this was a bit of a challenge. There were several climbs, one lasting a km and i had to stop a few times to catch my breath. Met some...
I’m not comfy giving advice because it’s very hard to put yourself in someone else’s position. But you already have so much invested in this journey. Leaving now may not be the right thing to do but only you can make the decision. And whatever you do it will be the right decision. Buen Camino
I’m just a little miffed that there is an undercurrent of distain from the Camino family that using luggage transport somehow diminishes the camino experience. Well without transport I would not be able to participate. I’m 78 with some respiratory issues that require medical equipment transport...
I guess I’m in your class. Just arranged my first Camino. I’m 78 and going from Sarria to SNtiago de Compostel. I’ve made it into a nine day trek because there is so much to see along the way and I want the time to go off trail and see all I can see. I’ve made arrangements at small B&Bs and...
