Age is just a number. I walked my third Camino two years ago at 74. I’m planning another for 2026. My 74 yo buddy did the CF with me. 6 years ago we met five guys from South Korea. The oldest was 82 and man could they party

I have walked twice on the CF, once from Porto, and part of LePuy and never had a problem. Maybe just lucky. I do check the beds BEFORE I drop my pack. I do this not only on the Camino but in Paris, Santiago south America, London, etc. and everywhere in the US as well. We met a fellow...
I'm sorry to have confused the issue. Yes, ATMs work 24 hours a day except when updating. But my advice is to only use them during banking hours just in case something goes wrong. If the bank is open then there is someone to speak with.
Buen Camino
Be careful when using ATMs. Only use an ATM if it is in the wall of a bank. Do not use freestanding ATMs. and then only use the ATM during business hours. 6 years ago in Astorga I did not follow my advice. At 8PM I tried to draw funds only to see the screen turn red (before I touched any...
You are right the Camino and God will provide. I am glad your transportation worked out. I am well aware of the Cardiac care in the Sacramento Area and your husband is in good hands. I hope the outcome is positive. Our prayers are with you

While I am an army cav trooper, through and through, there is nothing like an Air Force club. that's where I got my first beer in Viet Nam. I'll never forget it. Two sheets of PSP on two 55 gal oil drums
Welcome to the curse of the Camino. I felt the same way. I managed to talk my buddies into returning two years later to walk the Portuguese Camino. We loved it. Now we are planning our next for 2022 to celebrate our 75th birthdays.
BTW do you notice how the Camino seems to sneak into all...
I carry two different credit cards, both chipped. At a bus station in France the machine rejected one cc asking for a pin, and accepted the other. The ticket machine in Madrid gladly accepted my VISA credit card no pin.

After two Caminos, I have adopted the habit of inspecting mattresses no matter what my accommodations, no matter the city. This habit has served me well and did not require extra equipment or chemicals. And, most importantly no bites.
Buen Camino
Fortunately, after two Caminos I have experienced no bed bug bites. I simply checked the mattress, as recommended above. I now do that here in the States whenever we stay at a hotel. Interestingly, on our first Camino, we met a fellow pilgrim and she encountered beg bugs in Paris.

Four Old Guys walking, all 70 or 71 completed their second Camino in October this year. During our trip we met 5 guys from S. Korea. Three were 78 and two were 82. They were having the best of times. All of us were carrying our packs.

I have a friend who is Colombian and makes the best Paella I have ever eaten -- or so I thought. Twice on the CF I had Paella to dream of; once at a golf course and once in a restaurant off the beaten track and better than my friend's.
I also had the worst Paella ever. Be aware of the Paella...
Just to reemphasize 1. Carry two cards from different banks 2. only use ATMs that are in the wall of a bank. DO NOT use free standing ATMs. 3. Only use ATMs at a bank which is open. 4. Withdraw the max to avoid fees. 5. Not a bad idea to have a buddy standing by, but I never felt...
Two years ago we made it a point to visit every church and chapel we could find. If it was locked, we knocked and walked on. If it was opened, we lite a candle. We found many churches closed due to lack of clergy. One priest would say mass in many towns. Mass happened when he arrived...
I think it would be a great idea to start a Fellowship, but I am not sure how. I visited the Rotary club in Leon Spain. They were a wonderful bunch. Just be aware that 8:00pm may not mean 8:00. The president showed up at 8:10. One of my club members attended the meeting in Santiago. It...
We too grew tired of white bread. Many days our first stop, even before coffee, would be a market. Fresh fruit was often out breakfast along with what ever cheese was available.

Hi Azita
I too am a Rotarian and finished the CF two years ago. I brought two flags with me on the trip. I was able to make an evening meeting in Leon. Yes, I was dressed differently, but was welcomed with open arms. Language was something of an issue, but as the evening wore on...
