I've seen them on other people's videos. There's something toxic about them, but they're fluffy and I guess some people may be tempted to touch them.
You're a wee bit ahead of me, so if we don't cross paths, buen Camino!
Sixteen days before I get on a plane headed 19,100km north! I'm a little worried about all sorts of little things, and I'm sure "once I get there" my worries will evaporate.
However, I'm glad I've done a little research. Knowing not to touch the fluffy caterpillars - kinda handy. I know...
Thanks so much - really enlightening stuff. I have heard of tourists not doing their research, and being refused service at certain times of the day. When in Rome, must do as the Romans do - or in this case the Spanish! I sure don't want to offend anyone. Early cena sounds like the plan...
Just going along the lines of "day planning", can someone please remind me when Spanish lunchtime is - not sure if before or after siesta? I'm used to eating lunch between noon and 1pm and quite aware that I'm going to have to carry a snack, and/or modify my usual habits.
Yes definitely do-able if you are a NZ-er, though many people would need to put money aside prior - it's $78 a night (3 x nights) (payable upon booking) + around $250 for the before and after transport (payable some time before the walk - so the payments can be staggered out).
The Great Hikes...
Hi @Sue127 . The Milford Track must be booked ahead, you must stay in the huts (no tents), and you must go all in the same direction and not miss any huts. This means an orderly system so that as many people as possible get to walk it and beds aren't empty. The walking season is October to...
Definitely! I have already done the Kepler, but it was when I was younger. I feel like doing it again because it would be a different experience now. I really love being above the bushline in the alpine environment, and the Kepler has plenty of this.
The thing I liked with the Milford was...
I loved the simplicity of hiking life too! Get up, make breakfast, pack, hike to the next hut, eat dinner and collapse into bed. Life was the scenery around me, the people I met, and what I carried on my back, without the cares of a busy world.
I've recently completed the Milford Track here in NZ. Absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone who is fit and can get through the ballot process. My friend had pulled out a week beforehand due to long-Covid exhaustion, and I was very nervous about completing the track by myself...
Oh gosh I'm slightly scared now! I come from New Zealand and there's really nothing that wants to bite you except for sandflies / mossies. No snakes, bears, nothing coming out of the sky wanting for carrion. We have one venomous spider called a katipo, but pretty rare and have never seen one...
Thanks for your handy lines @Robo. I must learn them! Sounds like these have been very practical for you. The amount of times Duolingo has taught me how to ask for a salad *eye roll*, I'm thinking let's get onto the useful stuff!
Haha! My problem too! I'm up to 58 days (potentially another 200 extra days before CF). I'm practicing my Spanish on a Portuguese speaking lady at work (the closest I can find, not much language diversity where I come from).
I often think up a good sentence 5 minutes after the fact!
Hi @Mmgomez4 - have a click on my profile and read some of my posts if you like. I have asked a lot of questions for new people like myself, and the members here have given very helpful answers.
Wow that's a lot of learning of Spanish! Well done you! Thank you for your question as it's very good to get a feel for these things before we hit the ground. I tend to be a picky eater and may be challenged (positively) along the Way. I've been learning through Duolingo and surprised at...
Very interesting statistics @Kathar1na. Interesting that May is higher than June or July. I will starting at SJPDP late April and arriving Santiago early June. Are there any statistics showing people leaving SJPDP in 2023? I'm a poor driver of technology.
