Yes this was Granon. My wife and I were hospitaleros there and at first I always worried that people would not leave a donation. After a couple days I just became amazed how generous pilgrims were. By the way I never saw anyone take money.

You will find great food all along the Camino. As others have suggested try to find those places where the locals go and don’t limit your self to the Menu de Peregrino, step up to the Menu del Dia. I may get some flack for this but… On the way to Belorado from Santo Domingo de la Calzada there...
I am a bit confused about indulgences and Santiago.
I totally get it that during a Jubilee year a pilgrim can gain a plenary indulgences if they:
(1) Pass through the Holy Door to visit the Cathedral of Santiago/Tomb of St. James.
(2) Say a prayer: at least the Apostle’s Creed, the Our Father...
I’m wondering if anyone knows how to make UNTO?
I’ve got a number of Galician recipes (to include Caldo Gallego) that call for unto. Unfortunately it’s not available in the USA. But since it’s cured pig fat I’m hoping someone may have made it and will share their process.
Love Orujo! I make my own using cheap grappa. Now in case y'all don't know this, you can walk into almost any pharmacy in Santiago (and I assume Galicia) and purchase packets of pre-mixed herbs to make Orujo de Hierbas. Every time I am in Santiago I buy about 20 packets Here is picture of my...
Food: Fried blood and onions
Why: Everything on the menu were “farm” specialties. My friend recommended it. I believe it was congealed blood, fried with onions. Served with crusty bread and a salad.
Where on the Camino did you try it?: My wife and I were visiting a Spanish couple we had met...
Hi, hopefully someone from Germany can help. I have a German friend who I met on the Camino in 2010, who would like to see the movie "The Way" before he starts this 3rd Camino next month. He does not use the internet so I can't recommend any internet sites to him. He lives in Papenburg. I...
This past spring my wife and I walked the Camino Frances. We met a very nice elderly German fellow that we became good friends with. He has quite a sweet tooth and loved the tarta de Santiago. I would like to send him one for Christmas. Does anyone know of a internet site in Spain that sells...
I think it must be a regional thing. I lived in Spain a long time ago (1956 to 1963) and the recipe my mother used and I use now was from a Spanish cook from that period. But to be honest, I have seen (and have made) many tortilla recipes that do not use onion. I myself like it with onion...
